Summary
The IT Network Infrastructure Engineer Lead provides both strategic and technical leadership within Capital Health’s network engineering team. This role is responsible for overseeing enterprise-wide network projects, ensuring the scalability and security of infrastructure, and aligning network infrastructure strategy with Capital Health’s clinical, operational, and compliance goals. The lead engineer serves as a key escalation point, project leader, and liaison with vendors and stakeholders to ensure high-performing and compliant network services.
This hands-on leadership position plays a vital role in sustaining the network systems that underpin critical healthcare operations, clinical care delivery, and administrative efficiency. The role also ensures robust network security posture across all layers of the infrastructure, integrating advanced threat detection, access controls, and continuous monitoring to safeguard patient data and organizational assets.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred: Master’s degree or equivalent advanced technical training.
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in network engineering with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or supervisory role.
- Proven ability to lead enterprise-scale networking initiatives, preferably within highly regulated environments such as healthcare.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Expert-level understanding of enterprise networking, routing, switching, and security technologies.
- Deep knowledge of Cisco and Palo Alto platforms.
- Experience with data center migrations, cloud integrations, and network architecture design.
- Strong familiarity with network compliance, security policies, and change control procedures.
- In-depth experience with firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), VPNs, zero trust frameworks, and endpoint/network access control (NAC) solutions.
- Proficiency in using network monitoring and analytics tools.
- Excellent organizational, coaching, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) as they pertain to network and data security.
Other Credentials:
- Advanced certifications are strongly preferred: Cisco CCIE, CISSP, or equivalent.
Essential Functions
- Lead planning and implementation of enterprise-wide network initiatives, including cloud integrations and infrastructure upgrades.
- Approve network designs and ensure compliance with performance and regulatory standards.
- Serve as a senior technical escalation point for critical network issues and problem resolution.
- Act as liaison to vendors and contractors, negotiating service agreements and managing external partnerships.
- Oversee adherence to network security practices and change management protocols.
- Establish and maintain enterprise network security policies, enforce segmentation strategies, and ensure appropriate logging and monitoring.
- Conduct regular network risk assessments and coordinate penetration testing and vulnerability scanning with security teams.
- Define and monitor key network performance indicators (KPIs), and lead continuous service improvement initiatives based on data insights.
- Provide coaching and performance feedback to engineering staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to long-term network and infrastructure security strategy.
- Represent network engineering in executive and cross-departmental meetings.
- Assist with budget planning, resource forecasting, and capacity management.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Support innovation through the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams on incident response plans and audit readiness.
