We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Network Security Engineer to join the Ferguson IT organization. The Network Security team is responsible for IT infrastructure that delivers security services to the global enterprise, whose mission it is to ensure that only authorized users and traffic are permitted to use enterprise networks. This specific position is a technical role, responsible for managing global firewalls, intrusion prevention, wireless security, denial of service protections, and DNS Security platforms.

AREAS OF IMPACT: Establishes service-oriented relationship patterns, for service delivery across all operating companies (i.e. global).

Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes and systems, to enhance the performance and experiences of our internal and external customers. Problems and issues faced are numerous and undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation to understand challenges and to identify opportunities. Problems can be difficult and moderately complex, potentially impacting all operating companies. Solutions are typically drawn from business knowledge, technical understanding, and prior experience.

Location: This role is approved to be fully remote and can be based anywhere in the United States.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively manage all operational activities across global firewall infrastructure. Palo Alto Networks and Versa Networks experience preferred.
  • Advocates for new/enhanced Network Security services on behalf of customers
  • Contributes requirements to technology selection process.
  • Perform as Domain Expert / SME for existing environments, mentor lower-level engineers, and assume ownership and accountability in areas of recognized technical expertise.
  • Highly engaged in information security projects that evaluate existing security infrastructure and propose changes as defined by security leadership and architects. Additionally, deliver projects on time, within budget and in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Work in tandem with other engineers and architects, the Network Operations Center (NOC), Security Operations Center (SOC), incident responders (when anomalous activity occurs), technology infrastructure and development team members.
  • Applies in-depth advanced knowledge (principles, theories, and concepts) and skills of a specific/specialized technical area within the context of a similar industry or type of organization.
  • Respond to and handle service and critical issue tickets within SLA expectations.
  • Develop security test plans from architectural design. Identify deficiencies and make enhancements to ensure production is not impacted.
  • Drive security efficiencies, enabling security team members to work on more advanced tasks.
  • Adhering to all policies, rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Performing other duties or functions as requested by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Required Knowledge: Seven (7+) years or more relevant experience.
  • Desired: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information assurance, MIS, or related field.
  • Required Certifications: Palo Alto Networks Network Security Professional or Palo Alto Networks Security Operations Professional/PCNSA certifications are required or the higher Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall Engineer/PCNSE preferred
  • Desired Certifications: CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner), or CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).
  • Must have deep understanding of sophisticated routing protocols such as BGP.
  • Experience in managing multiple large enterprise virtual and hardware appliances Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) Security Policies for a large enterprise. Other NGFW experience considered.
  • A deep understanding of network protocols, security technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to work closely with Architecture, Engineering, and operational teams to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our organization's data and systems.
  • Knowledge of wireless security, and enterprise DDoS protection methodologies and mitigation strategies desired.
  • Experience implementing no-offload SSL/TLS decryption. Palo Alto Networks experience preferred.

Technical and professional skills:

  • Associate is expected to operate at the expert level across various Network Security technologies.
  • Highly technical and analytical expertise, with a proven deep background in technology design, implementation, and delivery.
  • Experience in cybersecurity, including compliance and risk management with a system and network security engineering background.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, creative, and efficient in identifying issues, understanding, and proposing solutions.
  • Track record of acting with integrity, taking pride in work, seeking to excel, being curious and adaptable, and communicating effectively.
  • Excellent written, oral, instructional, presentation, and social skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).
  • Broad experience/understanding of IT operations and service delivery model.
  • Improves and/or adapts work methods based on past firsthand experiences, without the benefit of defined procedures, and identifies solutions to problems through interpretive skills and analyses.
  • Working understanding of the SDLC (software development lifecycle) process and the QA (Quality Assurance) lifecycle and methodology

Actual pay rate may vary depending upon location. The estimated pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on a candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.

$8,470.59 - $14,834.37

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
