Job Description

As a Senior Engineering Applications Engineer at Western Digital, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the stability, security, and efficiency of critical Engineering Applications, including CAD/Simulation/Analytics tools, ALM, and PDM systems. This position requires strong technical expertise in desktop/laptop support, Windows/Mac OS, networking, SQL databases, and security, with a focus on supporting engineering applications such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, JMP, and others. You will work closely with various IT and procurement teams to optimize desktop/laptop application workloads, manage licenses, and provide technical leadership to drive the success of engineering teams in delivering high-quality products efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead end-to-end management of Engineering Applications support projects, from requirement gathering to post-go-live hyper care.
• Oversee the engineering applications portfolio, including installation, upgrades, and license management using tools such as FlexLM/SCCM.
• Provide technical support for applications like Polarion, SolidWorks, iObeya, MATLAB, BricsCAD, and other engineering tools.
• Troubleshoot issues related to server connectivity, client configurations, application access, and web applications (Tomcat/Apache HTTP).
• Deploy, maintain, and support Windows/Linux servers, as well as desktop/laptop environments, ensuring system health and performance through monitoring tools like Nagios.
• Develop and maintain system documentation for configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Manage System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phases, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Ensure application security, utilizing cybersecurity principles, threat modeling, and risk assessments to protect systems.
• Utilize scripting languages (Windows Batch, PowerShell, Linux Shell, Visual Basic) to automate tasks and improve efficiency.
• Provide mentorship and training to junior team members, sharing best practices in Engineering Applications support.
• Collaborate with geographically distributed engineering teams and stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
• Optimize engineering application workloads and licensing to reduce costs and maximize resource utilization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience in IT project management, systems support, and Engineering Applications environments.
• Strong technical skills in Windows/Linux OS, networking, virtualization (VMWare), and Microsoft SQL databases.
• Experience with scripting languages (Windows Batch, PowerShell, Linux Shell) and troubleshooting web applications hosted on Tomcat/Apache.
• Programming experience on java .net or any language is a plus
• Proven ability to manage and support large-scale application environments, providing platform-as-a-service for a significant user base.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.
• Familiarity with tools such as SolidWorks CAD, MATLAB, JMP, Minitab, Ansys, FlexLM/SCCM, and beyond.
• ITIL V3, PMP, or Six Sigma certifications are a plus.
