The Chief Information Security Officer is responsible for the security of company and client information and for the management of information technology risks across Northern Trust's global business. Directs, manages, plans and administers the operational and administrative activities associated with the running of the Information Security section. Responsible for security reviews of application technology architecture. Provides state-of-the-art technical expertise and support to clients, IT management and staff in risk assessment and the implementation of appropriate data security procedures. Manages multiple projects, professional and technical staff, and other related activities of the area. Develops, implements, and communicates an overall strategy to meet the strategic plans for the corporation and the business units. Oversees, plans, and directs the activities for the units, ensuring that resources are available to accomplish the business objectives.

Major Duties :

1. Approves IS security architecture/designs, plans, controls, processes, standards, policies and procedures to ensure alignment with IS standards and overall IS security strategy.
2. Manages the technology risk through the direct management of a group of managers. Oversees, plans, and directs the activities for the units, ensuring that the business objectives are being met.
3. Directs the development of techniques and procedures for conducting IS security risk assessments and compliance audits, the evaluation and testing of hardware, firmware and software for possible impact on system security, and the investigation and resolution of security incidents.
4. Advises management on security effectiveness and recommends enhancements. Develops, implements, and communicates an overall strategy to meet the strategic plans for both the corporation and business units. Directs the activities of the area towards accomplishing those objectives.
5. Oversees the financial and staff resources, including developing and managing capital and expense budgets, and ensuring that resources are available to accomplish the objectives set for the area. Develops and manages programs to support risk management and compliance objectives.
6. Assumes full accountability for the performance/profitability of the area as compared to the plan.
7. Assumes accountability for the performance management, career development, and diversity programs in assigned areas.

Knowledge :

Requires excellent communication skills, analytical ability, strong judgment and management skills, and the ability to work effectively with client, IT management and staff, vendors and consultants.

Experience :

Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least 10 or more years of technical experience in the security aspects of multiple platforms, operating systems, software, communications and network protocols or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Salary Range:

$350,000 - $475,000

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
