Do you want to lead the section of Testing and Measurements at DTU Wind and Energy Systems?

Do you have management skills and passion for leadership as well as a solid background within wind and turbine measurements? Do you want to contribute to a central part of an internationally leading department of a highly reputed technical university? Are you visionary and will you take charge of further development of the section with close ties to the industry?

DTU Wind and Energy Systems invites applications for a position as Head of Section for a new Testing and Measurement section within the Division of Wind Turbine Design. As Head of Section, you will become part of the DTU Wind´s broader management forum, which consists of the Department director, four Heads of Division and around twenty Heads of Section.

DTU Wind and Energy Systems is a department at the Technical University of Denmark located on the DTU Risø Campus in Roskilde, close to Greater Copenhagen and in Lyngby, Copenhagen. The overall mission of the department is to lead by scientific excellence and impact-driven research that enables a sustainable, large-scale deployment of wind energy and the development of an integrated and resilient energy system. For the Testing and Measurement section, this includes research and education in siting and integration, wind turbine technology, and offshore wind energy as well as scientific advice and testing and other research-based services. The department is internationally leading in its field and cooperates with industry and institutions worldwide.

Your role
You will lead a section consisting of 25 highly skilled, experienced, engaged, and independent employees consisting of development engineers and measurement technicians. Four of the employees are located at our test sites in Jutland, and the rest are located at Risø Campus close to Roskilde.

Testing and Measurements is a diverse and inclusive section with well-being, physical and psychological safety as top priorities.  The section works very closely with the wind industry, bringing the latest developments in DTU Wind research to the end-users through a variety of testing activities. Development of sensors, measurement equipment and data acquisition are cornerstones of the work in the section. Furthermore, full scale testing of next generation turbine prototypes is a key activity at our test centers at Høvsøre and Østerild. We are an accredited test provider for mechanical loads, power performance tests, and lidar calibrations.  We are proud to contribute to developing and applying new measurement techniques and test methods, in close collaboration with other sections, clients, research partners, and international standardization and cooperation groups.

The typical tasks for the employees in the section are:

  • Development of new sensors for wind and response measurements
  • Development and deployment of measurement systems and data acquisition systems
  • Analysis of wind and wind turbine measurements, including data management and data quality assurance.
  • Lidar calibrations, power performance and load measurements, analysis and reporting according to international standards
  • Handling of interaction to - and collaboration with the global wind industry 

Your role as the head of section will include the following:

  • Develop a section with high technical qualifications and manage competence and talent development among section members
  • Develop and communicate clear strategic objectives and goals aligned with the division and department strategy
  • Ensure, develop and manage high quality technical services in the section
  • Engage the section in developing future services
  • Participating in DTU Wind Energy management team and ensuring synergy across the organization
  • Recruitment processes in the section
  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and professional development in the section
  • Maintaining a creative and attractive working environment, with focus on cooperation, inclusion and competency development

Visionary people manager within Testing and Measurements 
You are a dedicated colleague and a talented leader with a solid background in measurements and experiments for wind and turbines.

You are expected to match the following criteria:

  • Modern people management and visionary and motivating leadership skills
  • A solid and broad knowledge of wind energy measurements with some years of experience 
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory, and the candidate should be willing to learn Danish. Whilst English is our formal working language, Danish is also widely used in the section.

DTU Wind and Energy Systems has an organizational set-up with four divisions. The organizational set-up reflects the new role of wind power in the renewable energy system as well as the continued need for development of new wind turbine technology and materials and components research. This organizational structure is set up to improve the strategic management, collaboration and executional capacity of the department to meet the needs of the sector and contribute to the green transition of society. The organization will continue our long-standing tradition of working across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions for industry, academia and public agencies. 

Salary and appointment terms
Terms of appointment and payment according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) or any other relevant agreement. 

The workplace is primarily DTU Risø Campus, but regular trips to our test sites in Jutland is expected.
