Cyber Security Engineer Apprentice

ROLE PURPOSE:

A Cyber Security Engineer Apprentice plays a vital role in protecting an organisation's digital assets from cyber threats. This apprenticeship provides hands-on experience in safeguarding computer systems, networks, and data from unauthorised access, breaches, and attacks. This exciting opportunity provides exposure to various aspects of security while working closely with technical teams from different parts of the organisation.

APPRENTICESHIP: During the 18 months, you will complete a Level 4 - Cyber Security Engineer Programme. You will take a number of modules throughout the apprenticeship programme, including; Introduction to cyber security, networking fundamentals, operating systems, security foundations, security management, active defence, cloud security, programming scripting and threat analysis. This learning will be fundamental in helping you to build an understanding of cyber threats, hazards, risks, controls, measures and mitigations to help protect Coppers systems and people.

Key Responsibilities of the role

• Monitoring Systems: Regularly monitor computer systems and networks for security breaches or intrusions.
• Incident Response: Investigate and mitigate security incidents promptly.
• Security Auditing: Conduct audits to identify vulnerabilities and risks.
• Implementing Security Measures: Assist in deploying firewalls, encryption, and multi-factor authentication.
• Security Policies: Help develop and enforce security policies and procedures.
• User Awareness Training: Educate staff on security best practices.
• Security Testing: Perform penetration testing and vulnerability scanning.
• Documentation: Maintain records of security procedures and incident response plans.
• Staying Updated: Keep up-to-date with cybersecurity trends and development

Your experience, skills and knowledge

Essential

• An A-Level in ICT
  • Or an international Baccalaureate at Level 3 in ICT
  • Or a level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
  • Or a BTEC extended diploma in IT (180 credits)
• A methodical step-by step approach to resolving issues
• Business skill like effective communication, teamwork and task/time management
• The adaptability to do a range of work- sometimes complex and non-routine, within different environments.
• The ability to work under direction, use discretion and determine when to escalate issues.

Desirable

• Microsoft 365 and Azure Security: Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure Security tools.
• Operating System – Mac/Windows: basic knowledge of operating system security and security tooling.
• AWS Security: Basic knowledge of AWS Security tools.
