Job Description

About the role:

We are looking for an Engineer with experience or a strong interest in the cloud and security. The focus of this team is  to secure our internal infrastructure by creating scalable programs that address our largest risks as well as develop engineering solutions that effectively solve a variety of security risks.
This role will involve a range of engineering challenges that will require you to analyse complex problems and be able to develop strategies to address those. These strategies will range from designing and implementing software based solutions, onboarding third party solutions, or developing internal processes and procedures. Deciding on a project by project basis which of the aforementioned approaches is the most efficient and yields the most impactful results is an important part of this role.

How we work

We operate on a strong belief in automation, programmatic implementation, and reusable design. We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem, but also follow through and drive implementing the design; drawing on the resources across the rest of the security squad and the platform tribe.
As the company grows, the requirement for a reliable security infrastructure becomes more and more critical. As teams are getting larger they need to focus on scaling our infrastructure to ensure Wise can provide a secure platform for our ever growing customer base. We need to sustain this growth by continuously iterating on the services we run, with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use.

What will you be working on?

We own multiple domains with different stakeholders and varying degrees of technological depth. We periodically evaluate which domain has the most impactful opportunities at the moment and prioritise our work accordingly. This allows the team to expand their skills and experience over time in all of these domains.

  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

  • Infrastructure Vulnerability Management

  • Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM)

  • Infrastructure Asset Management

  • System and Endpoint hardening

  • Compliance evidencing

  • Maintain and improve our Security Cluster

  • Infrastructure Threat Modelling

  • Maintaining firewalls and connection filters

What do you need?

We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to be an expert in every domain listed above and we expect candidates to upskill their gaps over time. If you have experience in some of these domains and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you! That being said, the following skills are required:

  • Have a strong background in engineering software solutions to address various use cases (Python, Golang, Java, etc.)

  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals

  • Good understanding of cloud concepts and use cases for different cloud resources

  • Experience with or interest in cyber security projects

  • Familiarity with Linux systems

  • We face complex problems with multiple possible solutions. You will need to be able to evaluate what the best approach is as well as breaking large projects down into individual tasks with clear outcomes

  • Identify security gaps we have in the business, share those with the team, outline the risk, and propose potential solutions

  • We collaborate closely with other teams and sometimes also external stakeholders. Being able to communicate with team members as well as others on various technical levels in a clear and efficient way is important to

Nice to have:

  • Infrastructure as code, e.g. Terraform

  • Hands on experience with the cloud, Preferably AWS or GCP

  • Have worked in larger Cyber Security focused projects

  • Kubernetes and containerization (e.g. Docker) experience

  • Experience with vulnerability scanning and management
