Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise the capabilities of all current and future missile defense systems.
C2BMC is an engaging and dynamic program within the Missile Defense and Space mission areas. C2BMC has a long history of providing solutions to the Missile Defense Agency and continues to be contracted to offer innovative solutions for both missions. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work across C2BMC in both Missile Defense and Space. The candidate will join an integrated architecture and systems engineering team, participating in a multi-company effort, and will be responsible for defining the operational, physical, functional, and technical architecture necessary to illustrate the vision and desired capabilities of a developing C2BMC initiative. The candidate will be part of a team designing missile defense command and control, as well as battle management systems, in an environment that leverages existing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) or government off-the-shelf (GOTS) components, with DoD interoperability in mind.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluating high-level needs with a systematic and logical approach
- The candidate will be responsible for creating system architecture solutions and concepts for various new and emerging capabilities of the C2BMC system, in collaboration with other architects, including the lead systems architect, software architects, network architects, cyber architects, and others
- Collaborate with various teams on System Architecture solutions, including software developers, network engineers, cyber engineers, DevSecOps, infrastructure, testing, and deployment teams
- This encompasses both physical and logical architecture throughout the system
- Additionally, the candidate will interact with project leads, product owners, and the MDA customer
- The candidate will present architectural concepts to a diverse array of audiences and act as the central figure for System Architecture, supporting development, testing, and deployment efforts
- The candidate will conduct internal and external design reviews
- Candidates may assist in documenting or reviewing architectures in an MBSE tool such as CAMEO
- Maintains awareness of current and emerging technologies and design methodologies in the field of DoD Command and Control, as well as COTS/FOSS information technology products
Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related working experience or a Master’s degree in a related STEM discipline and 6 years of related working experience, or PhD in a related STEM discipline with 4 years of related working experience
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Must have experience in Systems Engineering, Architecture, and/or Testing on a DoD Program
- Must possess a strong desire to become a Systems Architect for a complex Command and Control DoD Program
- Must possess strong communication skills and be capable of presenting technical concepts to a diverse group of engineers
- Must possess at least two of the following skill sets:
- More than two years of experience with C2BMC or similar complex Department of Defense Command and Control (C2) Systems
- Experience in developing innovative system architecture concepts and solutions
- Information Technology, Computer Science, and Software Network-related work experience on an integrated team collaborating with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions for DoD programs
- Experience as a Technical Lead or Systems Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Missile Defense, Space, or Link 16 domains
- Technical Skills required:
- Experience collaborating within a team that designed systems in an environment utilizing existing COTS/GOTS components, with DoD interoperability considered
- Experience collaborating within an integrated team of systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions
- Experience in identifying desired capabilities, defining those capabilities, communicating them to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users, and generating architectural artifacts to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities
- Experience in developing systems engineering and architecture artifacts (e.g., Specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.)
- Experience in creating briefings, reviewing architecture designs and artifacts, and presenting at DoD Customer Design Reviews
- Experience as a technical leader in a Department of Defense Systems Engineering or Development effort
- Familiarity with private cloud solutions and IT technologies such as VMware, Nutanix, Red Hat, and network solutions
- Familiarity with DoD cyber requirements, RMF, and related solutions
- Familiarity with software development and Java-based software solutions
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and/or Digital Engineering Transformation (DET) methodologies and solutions
- Familiarity with Agile development
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and the Cameo tool
- Familiarity with requirements management tools, e.g., DOORS
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in a related STEM discipline and 6 years of related working experience are highly preferred
- Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
- Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)

Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
