Peraton is seeking a Senior Engineering and Design Manager that will serve as the single point of contact for all engineering and design-related matters under the customer contract. This is a dedicated key staff role responsible for leading and directing all engineering and design activities necessary to ensure the reliable performance, availability, and scalability of the contract’s service infrastructure. This individual must have the authority to direct the Contractor’s staff and subcontractors and will be accountable for rapid response and restoration in the event of service issues.
This role requires a high degree of technical expertise, leadership experience, and the ability to work in a high availability, 24x7x365 operational environment. The Senior Engineering and Design Manager will also actively participate in various contract workgroups and planning initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all engineering and design concerns related to the contract’s services.
- Direct all aspects of service design, engineering implementation, technical planning, network infrastructure, and architecture.
- Manage the Peraton engineering team and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure service performance and compliance with contract terms.
- Provide 24x7x365 availability or ensure designated backups are available to support service restoration efforts and respond to State requests.
- Lead incident response from a technical engineering perspective, ensuring quick resolution and minimal service disruption.
- Leads cross-functional engineering teams, including internal staff and external subcontractors
- Participate in all workgroups or committees created by either Peraton or the client that will collaborate with stakeholders to support the continual improvement of the network service design.
- Ensure engineering designs align with industry standards, best practices, and contractual requirements.
- Authorizes technical direction, root cause analyses (RCAs), and corrective action plans (CAPs)
- Authority to lead service triage and restoration activities in NOC/SOC escalations
- Forecasts and engineers for scalability and service growth (backbone, edge, CPE)
- Oversees network telemetry, throughput monitoring, and latency/jitter optimization
- Acts as primary technical contact for the client on all engineering/design matters

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline.
- Note: In lieu of a Master’s degree, seven (7) additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted.
- Minimum of five (5) years leading an engineering team responsible for services of similar size and complexity to the contract.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of engineering work experience, preferably in telecommunications, network infrastructure, or large-scale service delivery.
- Must be available 24x7x365, directly or through a designated backup, to support urgent service and restoration needs.
- Expertise in large-scale MPLS, SD-WAN, VPN, IPv6, and multi-VRF network design
- Deep understanding of firewalls, DDoS mitigation, Internet access gateways, and load balancing
- Experience with carrier-grade infrastructure, high-availability topologies, and geographically diverse failover
- Strong understanding of device hardening, patching and version lifecycle planning
- Deep familiarity with configuration management tools, firmware updates, and standardization templates
- Skilled in designing redundant, fault-tolerant networks to achieve 99.999% uptime
- Familiarity with disaster recovery, hot failover, active-active routing, and COOP planning
- Experience performing and interpreting results from failover drills and live restoration events
- U.S. Citizen
Certifications (at least one of the following):
- CCIE, JNCIE or equivalent – strongly preferred
- PMP or ITIL Foundation – preferred for cross-functional program understanding
- CISSP or CISM - a plus for security-sensitive infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with statewide or enterprise-scale network engineering projects.
- Familiarity with government telecommunications infrastructure and standards.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional engineering teams and subcontractors in complex environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Target Salary Range
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.EEO
