Are you an aspiring cybersecurity professional eager to launch your career in a dynamic and critical field? We are seeking a highly motivated Student Intern, Junior Cybersecurity Operations Analyst to join our Information Security Office. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Security Operations Center (SOC) team, playing a vital part in protecting our digital assets against an ever-evolving threat landscape. Reports to: Senior Manager, Security Operations
Key Accountabilities:
SOC Support & Administration: Provide essential day-to-day administrative and operational support to the Security Operations Center (SOC) and Security Engineering teams.
Threat Monitoring & Analysis: Assist in the proactive monitoring and analysis of security events and alerts from various security systems (e.g., SIEM, EDR, network logs) to detect and respond to potential threats.
Vulnerability & Threat Research: Conduct research into emerging security technologies, cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and effective mitigation techniques.
Security Tool Management: Support the maintenance, patching, and upgrade roadmap for critical security technologies and services.
Incident Support: Contribute to initial triage and analysis during security incidents, helping to identify root causes and recommending containment strategies.
Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate routine security tasks, streamline workflows, and enhance operational efficiency.
Reporting & Metrics: Assist in gathering data and generating metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the SOC to provide actionable insights to senior management.
Documentation: Periodically review and update information security procedures, architectural diagrams, standards, guidelines, and other technical documentation.
What You'll Bring
Must-Haves:
Currently enrolled in or recently completed your first year of a Bachelor's degree program in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or possess equivalent practical experience.
Foundational understanding of information security principles, including concepts related to network security, cloud security (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), operating systems (Windows, Linux), identity and access management, data protection, and common attack vectors.
Familiarity with security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools.
Basic scripting skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell) with a keen interest in automation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating technical concepts clearly.
A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to learning.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a dedicated team in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in a security context.
Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
Participation in cybersecurity-related extracurricular activities, capture-the-flag (CTF) events, or personal security projects.
Relevant entry-level security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CySA+, Google Cybersecurity Certificate).
Working environment:
Hybrid role: 2-3 days per week in the downtown Toronto office
4 month Co-op /Internship: September 2, 2025 - December 19, 2025
