Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity   

Our Security Team are moving toward future focussed technology.  A lot of our technology is moving into the cloud platform and our goal is to have software defined solutions and become cloud centric.

We have a large programme of work to deliver and want to enable our team to meet our strategic goals. We are looking to enhance our cyber security footprint and the security standpoint for the Agency as well as support innovative transport solutions in partnership with our NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) teams. 

The role provides defence against cybersecurity incidents and identifies, analyses, communicates and contains or escalates incidents as they occur.

Some of the key things involve working with security information and event management (SIEM) to manage/tune the system, create/manage the detection content and actively monitor for alerts. You will correlate network, cloud and endpoint activity across environments to identify attacks and unauthorized use. You will have experience in monitoring and intrusion detection analysis using various SIEM and defence tools, such as intrusion detection/prevention systems, firewalls and host-based security systems.

This is a unique role, and we want a customer focused Security Specialist to join our high performing collaborative team. You will be comfortable working independently and enjoy seeing things through to completion. Working across a range of projects, you’ll consult and provide technical guidance to the business, be involved in evaluations and recommendations and help design and implement new policies.

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $109408 to $145876 of band commensurate to skills and experience.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • 5 years of experience as penetration tester, red team/incident responder, or as a security operations analyst
  • Strong decision-making capabilities, with a proven ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and identify the most appropriate one
  • An ability to effectively influence others to modify their opinions, plans or behaviours
  • CISSP, CISA or other security qualifications
  • Certification and training in infrastructure and security technologies, devices and appliances.

You may be required to be on call outside your standard hours of work, where this is considered necessary by Waka Kotahi for operational and customer needs.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
