In this critical role as Senior IT Manager and Business Information Security Officer (BISO), you will report to the VP/Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). You will lead a team of IT/Cybersecurity professionals, ensuring the highest security standards across Enterprise. You will act as the primary cybersecurity leader for the BISO group and a trusted advisor for business units, aligning cybersecurity strategies with business goals and risk priorities.

As part of the Global Cyber & Information Security Office (GCISO) leadership team, you will partner closely with business leaders, IT, and enterprise risk functions to implement and mature security governance, risk management, and compliance programs. You will lead a team of cybersecurity BISO professionals and who are charged with bringing the depth and breadth of the GCISO organization to the business to aid them in identification and management of OU cyber risk. This role requires a strategic thinker and inclusive leader who understands both the business and technical dimensions of cybersecurity. You will be instrumental in translating enterprise security objectives into actionable plans that enable innovation while protecting Medtronic’s data, systems, and reputation.   • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) between cybersecurity and the lines of business in the development of appropriate policies, standards, and frameworks.
  • Allocate resources (e.g., security architects, engineers) to achieve outcomes
  • Continuously monitor trends to anticipate and plan for future impact of cyber risk on a specific business unit (BU) or function
  • Follow all risk remediation protocols to ensure issues are mitigated, risks are accounted for and exceptions are tracked in accordance with frameworks, policies and standards set by the organization
  • Work with BUs to align funding requirements with strategic initiatives 
  • Participate in cybersecurity and business-related councils or working groups as necessary
  • Educate stakeholders on cybersecurity-related matters in an effort to increase awareness and improve culture
  • Develop an understanding of business goals and reframe risk discussions in business terms
  • Constructively engage business partners regarding cybersecurity issues
  • Establish risk ownership and accountability within the business line
  • Inform business partners of the risk implications of critical decisions by combining empirical analysis with expert judgment to assess business decisions
  • Challenge business partners’ assumptions about value drivers and present an alternate perspective
  • Reshape business partners’ preconceived notions of success where appropriate
  • Work cross-functionally with peers to develop and influence consistent practices related to staff development, performance management, client quality programs, cost management, and the promotion of Global Business Solutions.  Establish appropriate relationships at all levels within the organization to influence and execute strategy/operations.
  • Establish and maintain strong external peer connections in the interest of cyber information sharing and collaboration. 
  • Metrics and Reporting: Define and track key risk indicators (KRIs) and performance metrics; present insights and recommendations to senior leadership and the board.
  • Assist the CISO in strategy development and managing the information security program, focusing on security risk assessments; risk management (including risk prioritization and mitigation); education and awareness.
  • Manage activities of a team with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and employees.  Accomplishes results through subordinate managers, supervisors or exempt specialist employees. Recommends organizational structures of functions and units.
  • Work continuously to maintain a very high level of awareness of new trends, threats, and the constantly changing cyber landscape.  Respond quickly and appropriately to these changes with modifications to strategies and approaches in order to protect the company.

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • 5+ years of managerial experience

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • 8+ years of information security, audit, risk management, governance, regulatory, and/or compliance background related to cybersecurity, with demonstrated experience in the following CSF and Regulatory Frameworks including Fair model, CIS, NIST, ISO, SOX, GxP, CCPA, GDPR, PCI Compliance.
  • 5+ years of managerial experience of global teams
  • IT experience including a combination of risk management and information security with healthcare or pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Aptitude for understanding internal organizational environments and their relationship to the external business environment
  • Ability to develop a full and deep understanding of business operations
  • Understanding of how business initiatives create value and risk for organizations
  • Able to effectively analyze risk within the context of business problems
  • Strong ability to convey complex information risk and security issues in a manner that is easily understood and actionable and constructively challenges prevailing thoughts and processes
  • Able to consistently, effectively defend ideas and solutions
  • Adept at improving outcomes through proactive team coaching and development

  • Financial Accountability – Demonstrated ability and experience managing multiple cost centers, programs and budget accountability.
  • Communication Skills – Demonstrated excellent communication skills at all levels in the organization, strong negotiator and strong influence & presentation skills.
  • Leadership – Demonstrated leadership skills & high integrity presence; clearly conveys vision & purpose to workforce.
  • Administration – Previous experience in ensuring that functional area complies with administrative requirements including forecasting and budgeting, status reporting, and personnel administration.
  • Proven ability to take down barriers and build highly successful, high-functioning and accountable organizations.
  • Willingness and ability to play a hands-on technical role on the team, as well as coach others to be successful in driving to meet organizational goals.
  • Function as backup to other GCISO team members as necessary.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
