CIBC’s Technology Infrastructure and Innovation (TI&I) business spans Technology, Information Security, Deposit Operations, Loan Operations, Payment Operations, Data Management Office, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Security, Procurement, Operational Resilience, and Risk & Governance. TI&I drives operational excellence by managing the technology and operations required to run the bank, enabling transformation through innovation, and supporting growth objectives with flawless execution of strategic initiatives. The Governance and Oversight team within TI&I operates as a First Line team in the Three Lines of Defense model, enabling risk discipline, business resiliency, and value creation while strengthening the CIBC Risk Management Framework.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the Director, Control Testing, you will lead a team responsible for assessing, consulting, and reporting on operational risks and controls across TI&I business lines. Your role will include:

  • Developing and implementing control testing methodologies, roadmaps, and improvement initiatives.

  • Leading and executing risk-based control testing activities to evaluate the design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of controls.

  • Overseeing internal control testing functions, ensuring quality assurance and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Tracking control performance/execution to ensure appropriate control activities are in place and operating to support management’s assertions underlying TI&I’s internal control environment.

  • Serving as a trusted advisor, advising stakeholders on risk, control testing, compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

  • Leading annual risk assessments and internal control planning to address company-wide risks.

  • Presenting findings, recommendations, and roadmaps to senior leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Driving continuous improvement and innovation across all areas of responsibility, and collaborating with stakeholders to evaluate and enhance the internal control framework.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Governance, Risk & Controls (GRC): Review operational practices, risk assessments, and controls to identify opportunities for improvement and key themes. Maintain oversight of the Global control environment impacting US TI&I.

  • Strategy & Enablement: Maintain and evolve the internal control environment by collaborating across the Three Lines of Defense to foster a positive controls posture and staying informed on emerging technologies, trends, and regulatory changes.

  • Advisory: Provide guidance on risk management, including mitigation strategies, while maintaining an industry-standard view of control posture and best practices. Apply advanced concepts to provide guidance to lines of business during the risk assessment process to identify and evaluate risks and controls according to operational risk standards, policies and procedures.

  • Effective Communication: Deliver clear and concise reporting, presentations, and assessment summaries for executive audiences and regulators.

  • Relationships: Build and sustain strong internal relationships as a trusted advisor, fostering acceptable risk and resiliency.

  • People Leadership: Create a high-performing workplace by coaching, aligning rewards with outcomes, and managing career and succession planning for your team. Apply leadership skills and technical expertise to set appropriate context when assigning work, building team and individual capabilities, managing performance, creating a positive work environment and ensuring compliance with policies, standards, guidelines and controls.

  • Navigating regulatory and compliance landscape when defining assessment approach and strategy; ensure compliance assessment requirements across a complex regulatory environment are addressed through testing results.

Who You Are

  • You are experienced risk professional with 8+ in Technology or Cybersecurity front-line testing, audit, operational risk management, or management consulting, coupled with professional certification in Technology Risk, Cybersecurity Risk or risk related certifications (e.g. CISA, CISSP, CISM, CRSC, CEEP, CRCM, CRCMP, etc.). You have experience in applying new technologies, such as robotic process automation (RPA) or AI, to enhance control testing.

You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You can comfortably perform ad-hoc statistical analysis using pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas and other advanced Excel functions to determine root causes and trends related to available data.  You support the department and the organization by accurately comprehending data and data sources in order to provide the most meaningful analysis.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package.  This role has an expected salary range of $150,000- $200,000 based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position.  The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
