Position Overview:
The VP of Identity & Access Management is a manager role responsible for leading a team of engineers and other professionals in the design, development, and delivery of robust IAM products and services.
This role demands a strategic and forward-thinking leader who can align IAM initiatives with SECU’s ongoing IT transformation. The VP will ensure the implementation of industry best practices and security standards tailored to SECU’s environment, driving the development of secure, policy-compliant solutions that meet regulatory and operational requirements.
The VP of Identity & Access Management reports directly to the SVP Identity & Access Management within the overall Information Security organization.
Essential Responsibilities:
- (50%) Lead and develop high-performing IAM teams by aligning resources to strategic objectives, overseeing business and resource planning, managing performance through regular feedback and coaching, and supporting career growth within the organization
- (20%) Develop and maintain comprehensive IAM documentation and metrics, including system configurations, support procedures, business continuity plans, and key performance indicators that drive ongoing improvements.
- (10%) Provide technical expertise to design and implement modern, automated IAM solutions by integrating technical controls, enhancing service and privileged account management, and partnering with internal teams and vendors to meet evolving business needs.
- (10%) Collaborate with Information Security, Risk and Compliance teams to interpret and apply policies and standards, ensuring IAM control solutions are designed and implemented in alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- (10%) Monitor the cybersecurity and regulatory landscape, proactively addressing emerging threats, compliance updates, and technology shifts to strengthen IAM strategy and controls.
Required Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
- Candidate MUST live in North Carolina or contiguous state.
- Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related field. 5 years of relevant experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
- Extensive IAM Expertise: Minimum of 10 years of experience in developing, implementing, or managing identity and access management tools and solutions.
- Leadership Experience: At least 8 years of experience leading high-performing information security and/or technology teams, with a focus on growth and development.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of IAM-related technologies and tools, including Identity Governance Administration (IGA) Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Privileged Access Management (PAM), and Directory Services.
- Infrastructure Knowledge: Proven experience with infrastructure technologies such as cloud platforms, LDAP, SAML, MFA, and Single Sign-On (SSO).
- Strategic Communication: Ability to think strategically and effectively communicate IAM value propositions and initiatives to senior leadership.
- Security and Risk Management: Deep understanding of industry best practices, emerging threats, and risk management principles to strengthen SECU’s cybersecurity posture. Advises leadership on security protocols and incident response while mentoring team members.
- Issue Resolution: 3–5+ years of experience troubleshooting and resolving complex issues in highly secure and regulated environments.
- Operational Excellence: Strong organizational, time management, and resource planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and negotiate effectively.
- Service Orientation: Committed to customer service, quality assurance, and team collaboration with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Incident/Problem Management: Solid experience with ITIL-aligned incident and problem management practices.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong critical thinking and business risk analysis capabilities.
- Tool Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Jira, and Confluence.
- Collaborative Communication: Able to effectively engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
- Complex Communication Skills: Skilled in translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable language for diverse audiences.
- Influence and Change Management: Demonstrated ability to influence others, drive alignment, and foster adoption of security initiatives and behavioral change.
- Business Alignment: Keen understanding of business operations and dedication to delivering prompt, high-quality service aligned with organizational goals.
Preferred Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
- Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related field.
- Specific experience with NIST, CIS, PCI, ISO 27001, or other information security related framework.
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to convey technical information to all groups and individuals concisely and clearly both verbally and in writing to individuals with limited technical experience.
- Professional certifications such as: CISSP, CISA, CISM, GIAC, CGEIT, CRISC, OSCE, or other relevant industry certification and/or desire to obtain such certifications.
