Starting Wage Range: $39.61/hr. - $50.87/hr.
Job Summary:
Responsible for network administration including user accounts, groups, active directory, group policy, backup functions, malware protection, printer/copier management, mobile device management, security and network services. Acts as a backup for and works in conjunction with the Senior Network Administrator. This position is also responsible for maintaining the network’s security through patch management, protective utilities, and proactive monitoring. This position must have a strong working knowledge of network administration, patch management utilities, anti-virus/anti-malware systems, and desktop operating systems.
Essential Functions:
- Assumes responsibility for the effective completion of Network Administration functions.
- Ability to provide technical support to include planning, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure components of the LAN and/or WAN network(s).
- Implements effective Network Administration policies and procedures.
- Executes operational goals and ensures that Tribe-wide Network Administration needs are complemented and supported.
- Requires experience with vulnerability scanning and remediation solutions. The candidate must be able to identify, respond to, and remediate issues related to security, network availability, and performance.
- Develops and maintains expertise in the latest theories, principles and technical advancements through continuing education and training, research, professional journals and organizations, current literature, conferences, vendor presentations, etc.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all information encountered while performing daily tasks.
- Assists departments with providing effective Network Administration functions and any related equipment necessary.
- Informs supervisor of activities and of any significant issues requiring attention.
- Works in a professional courteous manner, as a representative of the Tribe, with all customers to include vendors, Tribal employees and contractors.
- Provides technical support in all aspects of LAN/ WAN management including system configuration, security, maintenance, evaluating, monitoring, upgrading and fine-tuning.
- Participate in formation and maintenance of security policies and procedures.
- Identify and document information security risks and propose mitigating controls.
- Assist in planning and growth by reviewing, evaluating, and making recommendations on proposals for networking and security lifecycles, implementations and enhancements.
- Provide support in the areas of vulnerability assessment, incident handling, system hardening, and system implementation of network resources.
- Administer and manage security platforms/technologies and processes, including but not limited to Log and Event Management, Vulnerability Scanning, Penetration Testing and Encryption.
- Responsible for system disaster recovery testing, updating the backup process, and backup procedures.
- Maintains the integrity of the LAN and/or WAN and ensures continuity with business applications.
- Maintains necessary PC, network and file server security measures and improve upon, as required to ensure consistent security protection of Tribal data.
- Maintains records on each file server and network system to include documenting repairs, preventive maintenance schedule, location, and hardware/software configuration.
- Performs preventive maintenance on hardware and equipment at all necessary location(s).
- Assists with systems integration(s) between new and existing systems.
- Ensures that all Information Systems equipment and work area(s) are secured and well maintained.
- Assists with complex network administration as required.
- Acts as an escalation resource for Help Desk calls—providing second tier support to internal customers.
- Successful completion of special projects as assigned.
- Assists as a network administration expert project including preparation of required specifications and the bidding process.
- Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
- Requires an Associate’s degree in Computer Science and a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience providing technical support on LAN and/or WAN environments.
- IT security and networking certifications like Cisco CCNA, or (ISC)2 SSCP or CISSP, and Hyper-V virtualization are preferred.
- OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- High security gaming license issued by the Grand Ronde Gaming Commission
- Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
- Ability to obtain a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security clearance within 6 months of date of hire is required.
- Requires Comp TIA – Security + certification or obtained within six months of hire
- Security Certifications in (ISC)2 or Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity within the first year of employment.
- Must possess analytical and problem solving skills and personal initiative, including the ability to carry out assignments with minimal supervision and pay great attention to detail.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of computers, laptops, current Microsoft Windows operating system(s), current Microsoft Windows Server Network Operating System(s) and the current Microsoft Office productivity suite required.
- Knowledge of system technical support on Microsoft Server platforms utilizing LAN and WAN required.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in meeting and dealing with others required.
- Ability to efficiently accomplish various activities and projects simultaneously and within appropriate time constraints required.
- Ability to apply problem-solving techniques required.
- Ability to use good judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances to determine the appropriate action(s) to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practices required.
- Ability to organize and maintain records and files required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory administration, Cisco networking products and Microsoft SQL Server a plus.
- Ability to work independently on assignments of performing repairs, service, and maintenance required.
- Understanding and ability to implement security best practices
- Experience in performing, and/or oversight of penetration testing of all systems to identify vulnerabilities.
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP, VPN, DHCP, WIFI, TLS/SSL encryption, and network administration protocols.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
- Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
- Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
- Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
- This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
- May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during Emergencies, or when the Tribal Emergency Operations Center is opened.
- Occasionally works ten hours or longer a day, nights and weekends.
- Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
