The Role
ADASI is seeking a highly experienced Systems Engineer – Avionics Software Development to join our Engineering team. This role is critical in designing, developing, integrating, and verifying mission-critical software systems used in our advanced UAV platforms. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with embedded software development in the aerospace sector and a deep understanding of avionics software certification requirements. You will play a key role in ensuring safe, secure, and compliant avionics systems that support flight control, communications, navigation, and sensor integration.
Key Responsibilities

Define and manage avionics software requirements aligned with UAV operational and safety objectives

Design robust, real-time software architectures for avionics systems (flight control, comms, navigation, etc.)

Develop embedded avionics software using C/C++ or similar languages

Integrate and test software using simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platforms

Lead software verification and validation activities across unit, integration, and system levels

Ensure compliance with DO-178C/ED-12C and prepare certification documentation

Collaborate across systems, hardware, test, cybersecurity, and quality assurance teams

Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and contribute software technical leadership

Mentor junior engineers and support process improvements and knowledge sharing
Required Qualifications
-
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline (required)

Master’s degree in Avionics Software, Embedded Systems, or Systems Engineering (preferred)

Experience:
-
15+ years in embedded or avionics software development in aerospace/defense sectors
-
Experience working on UAV or manned aircraft avionics systems highly preferred

Strong background in full software lifecycle development and certification efforts

Certifications (preferred):
-
DO-178C/ED-12C training or certification
-
INCOSE ASEP/CSEP
-
Cybersecurity credentials related to embedded systems (e.g., CISSP, GIAC)

Technical Tools
-
Languages: C, C++, and embedded software development frameworks
-
RTOS platforms and avionics middleware

Configuration & lifecycle tools: Git, Jenkins, JIRA, DOORS

Simulation & testing: HIL systems, automated test scripts, integration test benches

Protocols: ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, Ethernet
