Job Summary
The PKI Test and Evaluation Engineer will support the Air Force Public Key Infrastructure (AF PKI) System Program Office (SPO) by ensuring all configured software and hardware products undergo rigorous evaluation and testing prior to deployment across Department of the Air Force (DAF) environments, such as NIPRNet and SIPRNet. This role involves defining test requirements, developing test plans, conducting validation processes (including functionality, compatibility, security, and performance testing), and documenting results for Government review. The engineer will collaborate closely with Government stakeholders to address deficiencies and ensure products meet stringent standards before fielding. This position requires a meticulous, technically skilled individual with expertise in PKI testing and a focus on quality assurance.
Job Duties
- Product Testing and Validation: Perform thorough testing and validation of AF PKI SPO-configured software and hardware products for intended environments (e.g., NIPRNet, SIPRNet), including functionality, compatibility, security, and performance testing, prior to fielding.
- DoD PKI Product Testing: Support the testing of DoD PKI hardware and software products ensuring compatibility and performance across DAF networks, systems, and workstations.
- DEERS/RAPIDS Testing: Assist in testing new or updated DoD DEERS/RAPIDS systems, utilizing a workstation hosted in the Government-leased facility in San Antonio, TX, to validate functionality and integration.
- Certificate Registration Testing: Support DoD Certificate Registration testing as requested ensuring compliance with DoD standards.
- Government Collaboration: Ensure Government involvement at key milestones, such as requirements review boards, engineering review boards, and pre-deployment notifications, to align testing efforts with DAF standards and expectations.
- Test Plan Development: Define test requirements and develop detailed test plans for each system or product, delivering them to the Government for review and approval before testing begins.
- Test Readiness Reviews (TRR): Conduct TRRs with the Government to confirm preparedness prior to initiating testing activities.
- Test Documentation: Document test outcomes and deliver reports to the Government within 2 working days of test completion; compile comprehensive technical reports detailing all test results and findings for Government review and approval.
- Deficiency Remediation: Identify and resolve any deficiencies uncovered during testing, ensuring all issues are addressed before products are deployed across the DAF.
Required Qualifications
- Testing Expertise: Proven experience in testing and validating software and hardware systems, including functionality, compatibility, security, and performance assessments, within complex IT environments.
- PKI Knowledge: Familiarity with PKI systems and their application in secure network environments such as NIPRNet and SIPRNet.
- Documentation Skills: Ability to create detailed test plans, document test outcomes, and produce technical reports that meet Government standards for accuracy and completeness.
- Problem-Solving: Competence in identifying deficiencies during testing and implementing effective remediation strategies to ensure product readiness.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to engage with Government stakeholders during review boards, TRRs, and other key decision points.
- Security Clearance: Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a minimum Secret clearance, with all employees cleared to at least Secret by the contract start date of June 1, 2025.
- Location: Ability to work in San Antonio, TX, with full-time on-site support at the Government-leased facility as required for access to testing environments.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- PKI Testing Experience: Advanced experience testing PKI-related software and hardware products within a DoD or DAF context.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or DoD 8570/8140-approved Information Assurance certifications (e.g., IAT Level II or higher).
- Technical Writing: Exceptional skills in drafting technical documentation, including test plans and reports, tailored to Government specifications.
- Quality Assurance: Background in quality assurance processes, particularly in resolving deficiencies and ensuring compliance with deployment standards.
- DAF Familiarity: Prior experience working with DAF systems or processes, enhancing understanding of deployment requirements and stakeholder expectations.
