IT Information Security Intern

Fall 2025 Internship: This position is located at our HQ in Durham, NC.  Expected program dates are September 2 – December 12, 2025.

Job Summary:

The IT Information Security Intern will support our cybersecurity team in protecting the organization's digital assets, systems, and networks against threats and vulnerabilities. This role offers practical learning experience in core areas, including information security basics, vulnerability management, security monitoring, incident response, and compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, motivated, and eager to enhance their cybersecurity skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in monitoring security systems and responding to alerts.
• Conduct basic vulnerability assessments and participate in remediation tracking.
• Support incident response activities, including analysis and documentation.
• Collaborate in updating and maintaining security policies and procedures.
• Aid in compliance audits by collecting evidence and preparing documentation.
• Support the management and configuration of cybersecurity tools and software.
• Perform research on current cybersecurity threats and emerging trends.
• Perform administrative tasks as required to support overall cybersecurity operations, such as managing documentation libraries and collaboration platforms.
• Provide administrative assistance for security projects and team initiatives.
• Collaborate with IT teams to address security concerns in application and infrastructure projects.
• Support the team in organizing cybersecurity meetings, recording minutes, and tracking action items.

Required Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Information Science or Cybersecurity.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication in English.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
• Attention to detail and interest in learning new technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with scripting tools such as PowerShell.
• Basic understanding of IT security principles, programming and networking.
• Information Systems Analysis and Design coursework.
