About the Role
The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) is seeking a forward-thinking Lead Information Security and Compliance Analyst to join our IT team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the integrity, security, and compliance of our IT infrastructure while supporting the VP of IT’s vision for innovation and continuous improvement.

As the Lead Analyst, you will design and manage comprehensive security strategies, champion regulatory compliance, and support innovative projects that align with IALR’s strategic goals. This position also serves as a key advisor on technology risks and safeguards, fostering a culture of security awareness across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Information Security & Risk Management:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain organization-wide security policies, standards, and procedures.
    • Conduct regular risk assessments and oversee a vulnerability management process.
    • Lead the incident response plan and ensure effective mitigation of security breaches.
    • Oversee the implementation of robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
    • Monitor and adjust security measures to maintain optimal performance and protection.
  • Compliance & Audit:
    • Ensure organizational adherence to compliance standards such as NIST, FERPA, PCI, CMMC, GDPR, and others.
    • Prepare for and manage internal and external audits; resolve findings in a timely manner.
    • Maintain thorough documentation of compliance activities, audits, and risk analyses.
  • Strategic Innovation & Leadership:
    • Lead and manage IT projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with timelines and budgets.
    • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to drive efficiency and innovation.
    • Perform business impact analyses to guide IT planning and prioritization.
  • Training & Collaboration:
    • Conduct regular training to promote a security-first mindset across all departments.
    • Provide IT helpdesk support when needed and collaborate with staff on secure solutions.
    • Represent IALR in community outreach and education on cybersecurity practices.

 

 

Work Location
We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.   

The Ideal Candidate

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in information security, compliance, or IT project management.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning, security tools, and audit coordination.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or similar are preferred.

 

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Sits for long periods of time
  • Must be able to move freely between facilities
  • Light physical work may be required 
  • Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard
  • May lift up to up to 10 pounds on an occasional basis
