The Opportunity:

The DHS CDM Program is at the forefront of securing U.S. Federal Information Technology (IT) networks against a rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape. This initiative provides continuous monitoring tools, diagnostic services, mitigation capabilities, and enterprise-level support to improve the cybersecurity posture of federal agencies.

As a System Engineer – AWS, you will support and maintain cloud-based enterprise environments consisting of various Linux and Windows systems, all while ensuring availability, performance, and compliance in accordance with federal cybersecurity requirements. This is a hands-on engineering role within a fast-paced and highly collaborative team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead AWS systems engineering and administration activities in a multi-account, enterprise-scale environment.
  • Design, configure, and maintain IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS solutions within AWS environments.
  • Plan and implement systems integration and automation to support mission objectives and improve service delivery.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and service issues using CLI tools and log-based analysis.
  • Secure AWS workloads by applying industry and DoD security best practices, including multi-factor authentication (MFA), encryption mechanisms, and compliance configurations.
  • Implement and manage automated configuration and infrastructure using scripting (Bash, Python, Ansible) and AWS tools (CLI, JSON).
  • Build and maintain AMIs using AWS Image Builder or similar tooling with a focus on compliance and hardening (e.g., STIGs).
  • Perform system integrations with networking technologies such as VPN, firewalls, and routing protocols.
  • Interface with stakeholders and Information Assurance (IA) personnel to ensure system configurations meet government compliance standards (e.g., NIST 800-53, FedRAMP).
  • Contribute to technical briefings, documentation, and knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
  • Participate in Agile/Kanban-based development and operational workflows.
  • Participate in scheduled and ad hoc meetings, potentially at CACI or DHS facilities (virtual or in-person).

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent years of experience
  • Experience: 10+ years in systems engineering and IT operations
  • 10+ years’ experience with Linux (RHCE-level) and Windows Server system administration
  • 10+ years’ experience managing and integrating IT systems in enterprise AWS Cloud environments
  • 7+ years’ experience in scripting and automation using tools like Bash, Python, Ansible, and AWS CLI
  • 7+ years securing systems using encryption (OpenSSL, KeyStore, cyphers) and enforcing data protection
  • 5+ years implementing remote access security (e.g., VPNs, secure bastions, MFA)
  • 3+ years applying and validating security baselines (e.g., STIGs, NIST frameworks, FedRAMP)
  • 3+ years experience with MFA/2MFA implementations
  • 1+ years configuring and troubleshooting network integrations (VPN, firewalls, routing)
  • 1+ years of experience with Agile/Kanban processes and version control (Git/GitHub)
  • Proficient in designing and managing infrastructure as code (IaC) and automation pipelines

Certifications (Required - at least one of the following):

  • AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
  • AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional
  • AWS Security Specialty
    (Certification must be current)

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$90,300-$189,600
