This position is available to Virginia residents as Richmond or Lynchburg, VA Hybrid in-office applicants or remote applicants residing in states/locations under Eastern or Central Standard Time: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, Vermont, West Virginia or Wisconsin.

    

YOUR ROLE

This role will oversee both on-premises Exchange servers and Exchange Online, ensuring high availability (HA), business continuity (BCP) and disaster recovery (DR), and alignment with current and future state roadmaps. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Exchange Online Protection (EOP), Microsoft Defender, SPAM detection technologies, Microsoft Purview, and cross-functional collaboration, with demonstrated project management, people management and communication skills. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in modernizing communication, ensuring high availability, and implementing governance aligned with regulatory requirements.

What you will be doing

  • Architecture Design and Management
    • Design, implement, and maintain a scalable and secure messaging environment, including hybrid configurations combining on-premises Exchange servers and Exchange Online.
    • Develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for current and future messaging infrastructure, including integrations with adjacent Microsoft 365 services and other systems as needed, aligned with business priorities.
    • Establish an innovation pipeline within the messaging architecture domain to continuously assess, prototype, and implement new tools and methodologies.
  • Security and Compliance
    • Implement and manage systems to safeguard email communications from threats such as spam, malware, and phishing.
    • Configure and oversee SPAM and other threat detection for advanced email security, archiving, and continuity.
    • Deploy and manage Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Develop, enforce, and regularly update security policies and controls to mitigate risks and maintain a secure messaging environment.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery
    • Ensure high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) readiness for all messaging systems, minimizing downtime and data loss.
    • Conduct regular testing and validation of DR plans to ensure rapid recovery in case of outages or incidents.
    • Monitor system performance and proactively address potential issues to maintain service reliability.
  • Project Management and Collaboration
    • Lead and participate in messaging-related projects, including migrations, upgrades, and system integrations, delivering on time and within scope.
    • Demonstrate strong project management skills, including planning, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with Enterprise Architecture, Security, Compliance, and other business teams to align messaging solutions with organizational needs.
  • Communication and Leadership
    • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment.
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
    • Document processes, configurations, and policies to ensure knowledge sharing and operational consistency.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and managing Microsoft Exchange and related supporting systems.
  • change management certifications a plus
  • Experience supporting and administering high availability Microsoft Exchange Online, Exchange on premise, and hybrid configurations, including designing and implementing security policies and controls.
  • Excellent communication skills across technical and business audiences.

  • Professional certifications, such as Microsoft certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate), CISSP; ITIL, PMP, or

The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $ 114,800 up to the maximum of $226,900. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 15% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
