This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 320 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 400 staff by end of 2025. Overseas on the ground presence includes USA, Denmark, Mexico, and UAE, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
About the role
DroneShield is on the lookout for a System Security Engineer to join our rapidly expanding Systems Engineering team in Sydney. Working in an innovative and fast-paced team across multiple projects/products, this role offers an exceptional opportunity for a results-driven system security engineer to make a significant impact in a rapidly growing, and niche market.
This role will see you contribute directly to and oversee the development and implementation of a system security program within the company. You will work across our portfolio of products and projects (current and future) conducting oversight and management of security threat modelling, requirements development, risk assessments, stakeholder engagement, testing activities, and compliance assurance across the systems engineering lifecycle. You will conduct these activities as well as provide leadership and oversight to other systems engineers to champion a holistic approach to system security within the company.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
- Lead and manage system security activities throughout the systems engineering lifecycle in accordance with applicable regulatory frameworks, and standards.
- Provide oversight and management of threat modelling activities to identify, assess, manage, and document security threats to systems.
- Develop, maintain, and execute security plans, requirements documentation, system models/architectures, test plans and reports.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure security requirements are considered and integrated throughout design and development.
- Interface with clients, certification authorities, and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with required security regulations, processes and standards.
- Lead and manage DroneShield participation within system security compliance activities such as independent certification or customer assurance activities.
- Provide leadership and oversight in the implementation of a system security program across the Systems Engineering team.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in a relevant engineering discipline (Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Cyber Security, Computer Science), or similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of experience in systems engineering with a focus on system security, working across large and complex project/product development environments.
- Sound understanding of the application of systems engineering frameworks, principles and tools across the entire systems engineering lifecycle.
- Expertise in security regulatory frameworks, processes, standards, preferably in a Defence context, and their application across the entire systems engineering lifecycle.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain security documentation (e.g. security plans, requirements, architectures, test results/reports).
- Demonstrated experience supporting or leading certification and accreditation compliance activities.
- Strong analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to engage with clients and stakeholders to achieve security outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, and achieve results within a fast-paced team environment.
- Australian Government Security Clearance (NV1 minimum).
- Knowledge of Australian Defence security frameworks and standards such as ISM, NIST, EMSEC, TEMPEST, COMSEC, TRANSEC.
- Familiarity with tools such as JAMA/DOORs, Cameo, Jira, Confluence.
