Job Summary
 Alto Pharmacy is seeking a Senior Director, Engineering (DevSecMLOps) to lead and manage our Infrastructure, Security, DevOps, and Data Engineering teams. This critical leadership role will oversee the secure, scalable, and efficient deployment of AI, ML, and data-driven solutions, sitting under Data Science and Analytics while ensuring the seamless integration of AI/ML with robust, secure, and high-performance systems.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in AI, ML, Data Engineering, and MLOps, coupled with deep expertise in Infrastructure, Security, and DevOps. This role is responsible for driving end-to-end platform capabilities that power Alto’s AI and data-driven initiatives while embedding security, automation, and scalability at every layer of the stack.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and scale Infrastructure, Security, DevOps, and Data Engineering teams under a unified vision.

  • Define and execute the roadmap for AI/ML platform engineering, MLOps, and secure data infrastructure.

  • Partner with the VP of Data and Foundations to align engineering efforts with business and product goals.

  • Establish and champion DevSecMLOps best practices, ensuring automation, security, and scalability across AI and data pipelines.

Data & AI Platform Engineering

  • Architect and manage secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-based AI/ML platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

  • Build and optimize data engineering pipelines, ensuring smooth ingestion, transformation, and access for AI models.

  • Drive the adoption of MLOps tools and frameworks (Kubeflow, MLflow, Airflow) for streamlined AI deployment.

  • Develop and implement real-time and batch AI/ML processing capabilities that power Alto’s core products.

Infrastructure, Security & DevOps

  • Ensure Alto’s AI/ML and data platforms are secure, compliant, and resilient against threats.

  • Embed security automation into the software development lifecycle (DevSecOps).

  • Establish infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and cloud-native architecture best practices.

  • Optimize cost, performance, and reliability of cloud and on-prem infrastructure.

Operational Excellence & Team Leadership

  • Build a world-class DevSecMLOps engineering team, hiring, mentoring, and developing top talent.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.

  • Implement best practices for observability, monitoring, and incident response in AI/ML pipelines and infrastructure.

A Bit About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, infrastructure, or security.

  • 10+ years of leadership experience, building and scaling engineering teams.

  • Proven expertise in AI/ML, MLOps, Data Engineering, and Security best practices.

  • Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern DevOps practices (Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform).

  • Experience with secure AI/ML deployment, model monitoring, and governance.

  • Strong background in automating infrastructure, CI/CD, and security frameworks.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Deep understanding of cutting-edge technologies and engineering practices relevant to our industry.

  • Expertise in Startups,, AI/ML/Data Interoperability highly desirable.

  • Experience in healthcare or regulated industries.

  • Familiarity with Feature Stores, Model Registry, and Data Governance frameworks.

  • Prior exposure to serverless architectures and cost-efficient compute scaling strategies.

  • Proven experience in steering engineering teams towards the development of scalable systems.

  • Proficiency in architecting and managing solutions adaptable to growth and heightened demand.

  • History of driving innovation and surmounting complex engineering challenges.

  • Keen awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and market dynamics.

  • Track record of successful collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product management, marketing, and sales.

Additional Physical Job Requirements

Physical requirements for this role include the ability to work at a computer terminal with monitor, keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, and reach for equipment and supplies, make frequent repetitive motions required to operate a computer that include the wrists, hands and fingers, and lift, carry, push, pull, and move light objects up to 20 pounds. The role also requires the ability to effectively communicate through verbal interactions, discern auditory information, and visually perceive details to perform essential job functions.

This position requires occasional travel therefore you must be able to sit for extended periods of time on airplanes and/or in vehicles, lift and carry luggage independently, navigate long distances through airports and other travel locations independently, and adjust to different time zones and climates.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $224,000 - $280,000

Commission Eligible: No

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Yes - Required up to 25% of the time  

Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington (WA), and Wisconsin.

Employment Authorization Requirement: Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. At this time, Alto is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa.
