Job Description:

Overview:

At GDIT, your work has purpose. We’re supporting the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) with the Unified Claims Acceleration Platform (UCAP)—a mission-critical solution that accelerates claims processing, reduces backlog, and directly improves the lives of Veterans and their families.

Your cybersecurity expertise protects the mission and the people it serves. Join our team as a Cyber Security Lead / Information System Security Officer (ISSO) supporting the Unified Claims Acceleration Platform (UCAP). This high-impact solution accelerates the delivery of benefits to Veterans and their families.

As part of the DigitalVBA modernization initiative, you’ll help transform the Veterans Benefits Administration into a secure, AI-enabled, cloud-first organization. In this role, you will lead security efforts across systems that process sensitive data at scale, ensuring continuous compliance with federal cybersecurity frameworks and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Information System Security Officer (ISSO) for federal systems within the UCAP environment.

  • Manage the full Risk Management Framework (RMF) lifecycle and oversee Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities.

  • Develop and maintain security documentation, including SSP, POA&M, SAR, and Security Control Traceability Matrices.

  • Implement and monitor compliance with NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, FISMA, and agency-specific policies.

  • Collaborate closely with DevSecOps, Cloud Engineering, and application teams to integrate security into infrastructure and development lifecycles.

  • Serve as a liaison with Authorizing Officials (AOs), ISSMs, SCAs, and other federal security stakeholders.

  • Mentor junior cybersecurity analysts and contribute to enterprise security strategy.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in information assurance or cybersecurity roles, with at least 3 years serving as an ISSO or security lead.

  • Deep knowledge of NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, FISMA, and related federal cybersecurity frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience with RMF, vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys), and SIEM platforms.

  • Familiarity with cloud security (preferably AWS) and DevSecOps pipelines.

  • CISSP, CISM, or CAP certification preferred.

  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting

Why GDIT:

  • Mission-Driven Work: Directly support Veterans and public service outcomes.

  • Technology-Forward: Work with modern cloud-native, AI-enabled environments.

  • Career Growth: Access ongoing training, certifications, and advancement opportunities.

  • Flexibility: Remote options, work-life balance, and a supportive culture.

  • Competitive Pay & Benefits: Salary, healthcare, retirement, paid time off, and more.

The likely salary range for this position is $139,984 - $175,950. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
