About the Role
As a Cyber Insurance Underwriter, you'll be at the forefront of assessing and pricing digital risks in an ever-evolving threat landscape. You'll analyze potential clients' cybersecurity postures, determine appropriate coverage terms, and build relationships with brokers and clients while contributing to the growth and profitability of our cyber insurance portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment - Evaluate potential clients' cybersecurity controls, incident response capabilities, and overall cyber risk posture using both technical and non-technical methods
- Policy Underwriting - Determine appropriate coverage terms, conditions, limits, and pricing for cyber insurance policies based on risk assessment findings
- Relationship Management - Build and maintain productive relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders
- Portfolio Management - Contribute to the overall health and profitability of the cyber insurance portfolio in alignment with our risk appetite
- Market Analysis - Stay current on emerging cyber threats, regulatory changes, and industry trends to inform underwriting decisions
- Technical Review - Analyze security questionnaires, vulnerability scans, and other technical documentation to evaluate client security postures
- Claims Collaboration - Work with claims teams to understand loss patterns and incorporate insights into underwriting guidelines

The Cyber Underwriting team is responsible for the profitable underwriting of cyber insurance accounts across our markets. About You
You're an analytical thinker with excellent judgment and a passion for understanding both technical cybersecurity concepts and business risk management. You thrive in collaborative environments but can also work independently to make sound underwriting decisions. Your communication skills allow you to explain complex cyber concepts to diverse audiences, and you're committed to continuous learning in this rapidly evolving field.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in insurance underwriting, preferably in cyber
- Demonstrated understanding of cyber risk concepts, common attack vectors, and security controls
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical information and make sound risk decisions
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Risk Management, Computer Science, Information Security, or Business (or equivalent experience)
These are additional nice to haves:
- Professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, CISSP, CISM, or other relevant credentials
- Experience with cyber insurance policy forms and coverage structures
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data privacy and security (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
- Experience with cyber risk quantification methodologies
- Background in IT security, network administration, or related technical fields
- Familiarity with cyber risk modeling tools and techniques
- Experience in broker relations or client-facing roles
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week. This role is not eligible for either relocation assistance or visa sponsorship.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $192,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
