The Governance, Risk and Compliance Officer position is based in our Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne office.
About the role
Lung Foundation Australia is seeking a Governance, Risk and Compliance Officer to support the implementation and ongoing management of risk, compliance and governance frameworks that uphold the integrity and accountability of our organisation.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this pivotal role will help ensure Lung Foundation Australia operates within all regulatory and quality standards, while also fostering a strong organisational culture of continuous improvement and transparency. You’ll play a key role in supporting national accreditation activities, coordinating compliance tracking, and assisting with governance processes across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Risk & Compliance Coordination – Assist with the development and maintenance of risk management frameworks, registers and internal controls, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
- Governance Support – Contribute to the documentation and implementation of strong governance structures, and help monitor obligations across ACNC, WHS, and privacy regulations.
- Accreditation & Quality Improvement – Coordinate Lung Foundation Australia’s national accreditation process (e.g. QIP), including collection of documentation, stakeholder engagement and tracking of quality improvement activities.
- Policy & Privacy – Maintain and review organisational policies and procedures; support the implementation of privacy and data protection frameworks.
- Training & Awareness – Support internal compliance and risk awareness programs, including the delivery of policy education and compliance training.
- Reporting & Systems – Prepare clear and accurate documentation, reports and compliance records to support decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- Crisis & Business Continuity – Support the CFO in business continuity planning and incident response activities as required.
About you
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive professional who is passionate about good governance, regulatory compliance and organisational integrity. You’ll bring both technical capability and a collaborative approach, working across teams to promote quality, safety and transparency in everything we do.
Essential skills and attributes include:
- Tertiary qualification in business administration, governance, compliance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated experience in a governance, compliance, or risk management role, preferably within the not-for-profit, healthcare or public sectors.
- Strong understanding of governance obligations, privacy, and regulatory frameworks relevant to health or not-for-profit organisations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present compliance information clearly and confidently.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working collaboratively across teams and interacting with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient with documentation and record management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and able to quickly learn new platforms.
- A strong sense of integrity, discretion and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
