WHAT YOU'LL DO
Viant is seeking a qualified Jr. Security Engineer who will focus on incident response and vulnerability management The Jr. Security Engineer will be tasked with responding to and protecting against security threats including intrusions, ransomware, malware, system-level breaches, unauthorized access, vulnerable systems, insider attacks and loss of proprietary information. 

THE DAY-TO-DAY

  • Continuously monitor tooling for alerts and indicators of compromise (IOCs)
  • Identify and validate anomalous or suspicious activities across networks, endpoints, Kubernettes, containers and cloud platforms
  • Contain and remediate active threats in coordination with IT and engineering teams
  • Conduct forensic investigations of systems and environments
  • Document each step of the incident handling process in an incident tracking system
  • Collect and preserve evidence in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Communicate incident details and progress to internal stakeholders and leadership
  • Escalate significant or high-severity incidents to senior security personnel or management
  • Assist with hunts for threats based on current attack techniques and TTPs (MITRE ATT&CK)
  • Use threat intelligence to help enrich detection logic and improve response procedures
  • Assist in tuning SIEM rules, playbooks, and detection signatures to reduce false positives
  • Produce incident reports, executive summaries, and after-action reviews (AARs)
  • Maintain up-to-date runbooks and playbooks for various incident types
  • Triage and validate vulnerabilities at runtime and in code base
  • Triage and remediate misconfigurations in systems
  • Triage and remediate exposed secrets and overly permissive service accounts
  • Triage and remediate systems with exposed sensitive information
  • Stay current on security trends, CVEs, exploits, and advanced persistent threats (APTs)
  • Be part of an on-call rotation to handle alerts and incident response on a 24x7 basis

GREAT TO HAVE

  • 1-2 years as an incident response analyst in a Security Operations Center (SOC)
  • Minimum of 3+ years experience as a system administrator or senior IT support role
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Proficient in various security software and technologies and familiarity with security tooling used in popular cloud providers (AWS/GCP preferred)
  • Experience with version control systems (Preferably GitHub)
  • Knowledge of current security threats, techniques, and landscape
  • Preferred certifications: Security+, CEH, OSCP, GCFE
  • Experience working with scripting and programming languages such as Python to interface with APIs
