Position Summary:

As the AI/ML Chief, you will serve as the senior technical leader shaping the enterprise vision, strategy, and execution of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solutions. You will architect scalable pipelines, drive multi-agent large language model (LLM) capabilities, and oversee a high-performing, multidisciplinary AI/ML team. In this role, you will apply an unyielding mission-first, people-always leadership style, ensuring secure, reliable, and trustworthy AI delivery with zero tolerance for mission failure. Your direction will directly enable decisive operational advantage for classified, mission-critical programs at the highest performance levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect and guide end-to-end MLOps workflows spanning data ingestion, feature engineering, model training, registry, CI/CD deployment, drift monitoring, and secure retraining practices.

  • Direct the advancement of agentic LLM frameworks, anomaly detection models, and scalable mission data pipelines.

  • Evaluate and assess emerging AI research areas — including multi-agent LLM orchestration, advanced embeddings, and AI security — producing detailed cost/benefit and risk assessments for executive decision-making.

  • Mentor and guide AI/ML engineers, establishing coding standards, code-review processes, secure research protocols, and a roadmap for future innovation.

  • Collaborate with hunt teams, reverse engineers, and DevSecOps functions to operationalize models in high-tempo, secure environments.

  • Own model-health observability dashboards, automated drift-alerting, and retraining cycles to guarantee continuous, reliable, and secure model performance.

  • Present complex technical and strategic concepts clearly to senior government stakeholders and mission leadership.

  • Provide vision and direction for integrating emerging AI methods and tools, maintaining MRI’s technical edge in secure, mission-focused AI.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 12+ years of experience designing, deploying, and operating advanced ML/AI solutions in classified or mission-critical environments, with at least five (5) years directly leading technical AI/ML teams.

  • Deep proficiency with modern AI/ML frameworks, containerized infrastructure, and vector database architectures.

  • Proven hands-on expertise implementing agentic LLM solutions, anomaly detection models, NLP pipelines, or cyber-focused analytics at scale.

  • Strong understanding of MLOps, secure software supply chains, and advanced AI security and governance practices.

  • Excellent ability to translate complex concepts into clear guidance for executive leaders, mission owners, and stakeholders.

  • Commitment to mission-first, people-always leadership with zero tolerance for mission failure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Publications or open-source contributions in the areas of LLM security, AI security, or adversarial machine learning.

  • Familiarity with TS/SCI-accredited cloud AI/ML environments.

  • Knowledge of federated or privacy-preserving AI frameworks applied in secure national mission operations.

Clearance Requirement:

  • Active TS/SCI with Poly

Salary Range:

  • $310K-$330K (Salary commensurate with experience)
