About this role

Strava is the app for active people. With over 150 million athletes in more than 185 countries, Strava is where connection, motivation, and personal bests thrive. No matter your activity, gear, or goals, we help you find your crew, crush your milestones, and keep moving forward. Start your journey with Strava today.

Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward.

This role is on the Strava Security Team, which exists to protect Strava’s people, business, and data through integrated, proactive security practices.

We work across all security domains, including, but not limited to, product security, vulnerability management, incident response, infrastructure, network, governance, and enterprise security.

We follow a flexible hybrid model that generally translates to half your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week.

What You’ll Do:

  • Are passionate about securing a platform that supports millions of athletes and the applications that power their experience
  • Enjoy working closely with engineers to design, architect, and build secure-by-default systems from the ground up
  • Will have a high-leverage impact by enabling product teams to ship features securely and confidently at scale
  • Are excited to build tools, libraries, and review workflows that proactively identify and eliminate security risks
  • Will collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Security teams to ensure security is embedded throughout the SDLC

You Will Be Successful Here By:

  • Being highly self-motivated and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership over secure application design
  • Partnering with developers to conduct architectural reviews, threat models, and security design consultations
  • Building and maintaining reusable security components, libraries, and tooling to accelerate secure development
  • Leading proactive security reviews and helping developers navigate secure implementation patterns
  • Seeking practical, developer-friendly solutions that reduce friction without compromising on security

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Bring experience designing secure systems in cloud-native environments and understand modern software architecture patterns
  • Have conducted application threat modeling, security design reviews, and provided hands-on guidance to engineering teams
  • Have built or contributed to secure coding libraries, static analysis rulesets, or security CI/CD integrations
  • Are comfortable working with languages like: Python, Go, JavaScript, or similar in a modern software development environment
  • Stay current on security vulnerabilities and have a working knowledge of frameworks like OWASP Top 10, ASVS, and SLSA
  • Are collaborative and pragmatic—able to influence teams through partnership, clarity, and domain expertise
  • Communicate clearly and proactively across functions and time zones to align security and engineering goals
