Job Description

At AFCA, we help Australians resolve financial complaints fairly and independently. Behind the scenes, our Security team keeps everything safe, sound, and secure. Now, we’re looking for a sharp, curious Junior Security Administrator to join the mission. If you’re passionate about cyber security, eager to learn, and ready to roll up your sleeves in both technical and governance work, this is your chance to grow your career while protecting something that matters. You'll join our team of 5, focusing on the development and implementation of our threat intelligence program by identifying, analyzing, and mitigating cyber threats to protect our organisation. We are looking for someone who is in early in their IT career journey, seeking the next step with a drive to own projects and resolve issues related to security. 

Typically in this role you will:

  • High quality and timely resolution of user and system generated tickets in the security queue to ensure security issues at AFCA are well managed
  • Resolve issues and offer solutions to AFCA staff, and advise users on relevant practices and processes
  • Escalate issues, advise, and receive instructions from leader
  • Report on security system performance
  • Continuously improving AFCA’s security posture and positively contributing to a security-first culture.
  • Continuous improvement of AFCA’s security position within the context of current and future business applications and system.
  • Assist with deployment of appropriate controls to ensure compliance with information and communications security and use policies

Qualifications

  • Entry level experience in an IT role.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, cyber security or a related field is desirable, but not required.
  • Industry security certifications would be viewed advantageously but are not expected
  • Apply a security mindset and upholding AFCA’s security vision when solving problems, applying strong communication, analytical and critical thinking skills.   
  • Some understanding and knowledge of computer, network, and security systems. Knowledge of better practice security standards is desirable.
  • Listen when ideas are challenged, seek to understand the nature of the criticism and respond constructively.
  • Ability to manage many competing priorities and stakeholder expectations.
  • Raise and work through challenging issues and proposing alternative approaches, showing flexibility and initiative to respond quickly when situations change.
