Here’s the opportunity:

Futurpreneur is committed to leveraging technology to drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and deliver exceptional services and offerings to our young entrepreneurs, mentors, and internal teams. As part of those efforts, we are seeking a talented and experienced hands-on IT Manager to join our dynamic team. 

As the IT Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading our IT department and ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our technology infrastructure. You will be responsible for managing a team of IT professionals, overseeing day-to-day IT operations, monitoring systems for cyber security threats, and providing direction to support the organization's goals and objectives. Reporting to the Head of IT & Digital Experience, this is a hands-on role that requires significant technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

The IT Manager will also be responsible for managing and contributing to the design, implementation, and maintenance of our organization's information systems, cloud infrastructure (including SaaS applications) and overall technology infrastructure, applying ITIL Service Management best practices.  

This is a full time, permanent role, based in Toronto, ON. The incumbent will be working on our hybrid work model (minimum 2 days in the office).

Job responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management - 20%

  • Work with the Head of IT & Digital Experience to develop and implement strategic plans for the organization's IT infrastructure, considering current and future business needs, technological advancements, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee network configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Ensure VPN tunnels are properly encrypted and authenticated to protect sensitive data during transit.
  • Manage Active Directory services, including user account management, DNS, group policy configuration, replication, and domain controller maintenance.
  • Implement security best practices to safeguard directory services from unauthorized access.
  • Design scalable and resilient infrastructure solutions that support business applications and services while optimizing performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Evaluate hardware and software requirements based on business needs and technical specifications.
  • Forecast future infrastructure needs based on growth projections, usage patterns, and workload demands, and plan for scalability and expansion accordingly.
  • Manage relationships with hardware and software vendors, service providers, and contractors to ensure timely delivery of products and services, resolution of issues, and adherence to contractual agreements.

Cloud Infrastructure Management - 20%

  • Oversee the organization's presence in Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
  • Manage Cisco Meraki infrastructure, including wireless access points, switches, and security appliances.
  • Manage cloud storage solutions to store and manage data securely in the cloud.
  • Monitor and optimize Azure resource usage and spending to ensure cost-effectiveness and budget compliance.
  • Implement cost management tools and strategies, such as Azure Cost Management + Billing, to track and control cloud expenses.
  • Implement security best practices and compliance standards, such as Azure Security Center and Azure Policy, to enforce security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage backup policies and schedules using Azure Backup to protect data and applications running in Azure against accidental deletion, corruption, or outages.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of Azure resources and configurations to identify and remediate security risks, compliance issues, and configuration drift.

Cyber Security Management - 15%

  • Manage Smarthost policies, functionality, and messaging flows.
  • Manage DKIM, SPF, DMARC and other secure messaging parameters.
  • Manage endpoint detection and response (EDR), endpoint protection platform (EPP), and extended detection and response (XDR) solutions.
  • Work with the Head of IT & Digital Experience to develop and maintain data loss prevention (DLP) policies and procedures to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or exfiltration
  • Manage MDR relationship and responses to ensure cyber risk is managed according to risk tolerance.
  • Work with the Head of IT & Digital Experience to develop and implement cybersecurity policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organizational data and information systems.
  • Work with the Head of IT & Digital Experience to maintain and manage incident response plans, business continuity plans, and disaster recovery procedures to mitigate the impact of security incidents and ensure the resilience of critical business operations.
  • Stay abreast of emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends, evaluating new technologies and methodologies to enhance the organization's security posture.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and contractual obligations related to cybersecurity, conducting regular audits and assessments to validate adherence to security policies and controls.

Monitoring, Mitigation and Continuity – 10%

  • Implement data encryption mechanisms, access controls, and user authentication protocols to safeguard data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure the timely and reliable backup of critical data and systems, including off-site storage and redundancy measures.
  • Lead the testing backup and recovery processes through regular drills and simulations to validate their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain business continuity plans (BCPs) and disaster recovery plans (DRPs) to minimize the impact of disruptive events on business operations.
  • Assist the IT team during crisis situations, ensuring effective responses to requests from the Head of IT & Digital Experience.
  • Continuously review and update data loss mitigation and business continuity plan in response to changes in technology, regulatory requirements, or business priorities.
  • Ensure IT infrastructure, cloud and security projects are delivered within scope, budget and on time by following up on tasks in the work breakdown structure, escalating issues, checking in with task owners for status and meeting with the Head of IT & Digital Experience to provide regular updates.
  • Monitor progress of infrastructure, cloud and security projects against milestones and adjust as necessary to ensure successful project completion.

Leadership, Coaching and Team management - 35%

  • Lead, manage and coach the IT team in the delivery of projects and tasks, achieving SLAs and satisfaction level in line with the IT annual business plan
  • Oversee ticket management process, assignments and overall IT service management
  • Provide direction with prioritization of work and assist the team, where necessary
  • Support with recruitment and onboarding of new team members and develop existing team members to advance their areas of expertise and ensure they have the requisite skills to form part of a high-performance team.
  • Collaborate with the Talent and Culture team for the development of role profiles, performance management, staff engagement, recruitment, learning and development and identification of team skill gaps.
  • Create opportunities for individual and team feedback and support with open communication, providing coaching and guidance as needed.
  • Be the main of contact for escalation and work with Head of IT & Digital Experience on potential issues
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the team on infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity and IT operations best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Review technical designs and implementation to ensure adherence to quality standards and architectural guidelines.
  • Serve as a liaison between the IT team and the Head of IT & Digital Experience, conveying technical concepts and providing recommendations for issue mitigation.

Requirements

What you bring: 

  • Relevant experience may include education with a focus in Computer Science or related field or equivalent hands-on career experience
  • Five or more years' experience in a similar position
  • ITIL 4 Foundation certificate 
  • Bilingualism in French & English (spoken & written) – a strong asset
  • Microsoft cloud certifications (e.g. Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Security Engineer Associate) considered as assets.
  • VCP certification is an asset.
  • CCNA or Cisco Meraki certifications (e.g. CMSS, CMNO) considered as assets.
  • Cybersecurity certifications (eg. CompTIA Security +, CISM) are an asset.
  • Previous experience in effectively aligning IT initiatives with business objectives, managing resource allocation and budget constraints
  • Previous experience in managing digital assets through robust cybersecurity measures, encompassing risk assessments, threat mitigation, compliance adherence, and incident response planning
  • Previous experience in leading a team of IT professionals, providing direction and coaching 
  • Strong proven ability to gather IT requirements from various stakeholders and provide appropriate recommendations
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey project objectives, expectations, and updates to team members, stakeholders, and clients and the ability to tailor communication style to different audiences. 
  • Strong organizational skills to manage project timelines, resources, and budgets as well as IT operational tasks  
  • Proven ability to problem solve and analyze situations for improvements
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible in their approach
  • Strong time management to timely completion of project milestones. 
  • Ability to identify, manage and mitigate risks of a project.
