Overview

The Discovery Manager is a client-dedicated role that supports the day-to-day discovery management and strategy for a portfolio of matters and assists with overall discovery program development.  This role will work closely with in-house counsel, outside counsel, and other client stakeholders such as IT, Information Security, Data Privacy, and Compliance as required to ensure that daily discovery requirements are met in a timely manner and according to best practices.  As a strategic consultant, the Discovery Manager requires strong attention to detail, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the client’s strategic discovery goals and objectives, as defined by the client in consultation with Consilio
  • Standardize, coordinate, and facilitate discovery tasks with vendors and other parties
  • Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders across the discovery workflow
  • Coordinate discovery activity by matter and serve in a consultative role to appropriately limit the amount data collected, processed, and reviewed
  • Provide recommendations on case-specific issues, including complex, large-scale, and non-standard requirements and requests
  • Oversee day-to-day evidence management for assigned matters and facilitate adherence to end-to-end discovery processes
  • Facilitate custodian interviews to identify data sources for preservation and/or collection
  • Provide guidance to counsel in preparing matter-specific document review protocols
  • Understand implications of international collection and address international data issues with the appropriate parties
  • Coordinate and oversee document review projects in conjunction with counsel and document review vendors
  • Review ESI protocols and collaborate with counsel to establish standard production specifications
  • Provide guidance and continuity on discovery-related decisions throughout the matter
  • Provide recommendations to the discovery team on process improvements and opportunities for spend and risk reduction
  • Identify and operationalize collection, processing, review, and production workflow enhancements
  • Ensure process documentation is up to date and available; provide education and support when needed
  • Deliver high-quality work product and a service-oriented approach in a client facing environment

  • Demonstrate professionalism and subject matter expertise to instill confidence in senior client stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment for issues requiring escalation
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to anticipate client needs
  • The ability to confront unexpected problems quickly and effectively

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
  • JD strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of in-depth eDiscovery experience inside a corporate legal department, at a law firm, or at a discovery vendor
  • Document review and Relativity experience strongly preferred
