Role Purpose;

The IP network Design Engineer is responsible for Vodafone’s IP Engineering delivers connectivity to enable carrier grade services for our customers across Mobile, Fixed, IT, Cloud and Corporate. The IP Engineering spans across all markets in Europe, Egypt and India, and within the Atlantic Cluster we deliver services to the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.
The team specializes on the Engineering of Core IP Network infrastructure and connectivity within the data centre as well as implementing security devices which prevent increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks. We enable projects that require connectivity both within local market and internationally to central data centres, public cloud providers or 3rd party partners.
We continuously guarantee the IP network runs to carrier grade service levels by ensuring they’re designed with the required capacity, resiliency and support, always having in mind investments are done efficiently and costs/benefits are taken into consideration.
We are swiftly transforming our networks by transitioning to SDN technology with programmability providing orchestrated service deployment enabling faster time to market, improved resiliency, and supervision.
With a design and customer-focused mindset, you will work on a variety of key projects to implement IP network and security nodes ranging from Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Load Balancers and Proxies guaranteeing the network is compliant with Group Security policies.
As the engineering authority you’ll provide IP and Security expertise at various levels, sharing technical insight and carry out design for the internal customer projects in which you participate.

With us you will:

Design of IP network and security devices which will integrate with the rest of the network.
Definition and delivery of technical solution designs with the appropriate dimensioning, scalability that are cost profile.
Creation and maintenance of High Level and Low-Level Designs for existing and new infrastructure.
Delivery of capacity management/expansion activities for the nodes in scope, in line with directives for the region.
Delivery of software upgrades/hardware renewals/infrastructure refresh of the nodes in scope, in line with Planning Design and Dimensioning guidelines.
Participate in local demand management forum to analyse and prioritise connectivity requests from customers for domestic and international projects.
Manage vendors and system integrators to ensure successful implementation of new designs.
Interface with regional and local Operations teams to define, plan and schedule network activities and interventions.
In addition, you’ll be responsible for the analysis and reporting of issues, their risks, cost/benefits, effectiveness and efficiency.
Report and provide updates on inflight projects, and highlight risks to programme teams.
Contribute to the definition and maintenance of the IP Evolution Plan by raising issues/requirements which the current design can’t address.
Support management of the IP Engineering and Delivery budget execution in your market and participate in benchmarking across all countries in the cluster, aligning with applied best practises, harmonising design whenever possible.

We Are Looking For You, If You Have:

Essential
An academic degree and/or at least 5 years work experience in a Telecom / IT organization supporting large heterogeneous IP networks
Solid knowledge of IP network design / architecture
Excellent knowledge on some the following network nodes and vendors:
Cisco Router/Switches (Nexus, iOS, Catalyst)
Cisco ACI
FortiNet (FortiGate, FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager)
Juniper (SRX, EX, MX)
F5 (LTM, GTM/DNS)
Cisco Firewalls/VPN Concentrators (ASA)
Tufin
Budget management and project planning experience
Detailed knowledge of IP and Security best practices (CCNP, CISSP certification are a plus)
Experience on Mobile and 3GPP networks is a plus
Automation - Ansible playbooks and Go programming are a plus
