Role purpose

The key purpose of the Security Engineer role is to plan, coordinate, implement, and maintain IT/OT/Digital product security services. The focus is on day-to-day engineering and operations of security platforms to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Vicinity’s IT/OT/Digital assets. This involves identifying and mitigating security risks, configuring and maintaining security infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The Security Engineer collaborates with various teams to integrate security measures into the IT infrastructure, provides technical support and guidance, and monitors the performance of security systems. Additionally, the role includes conducting security assessments, responding to incidents, and staying informed about emerging security technologies and trends to continuously enhance the organisation's security posture.

Key Accountabilities


Security Design & Implementation    

  • Build and maintain security infrastructure (e.g., firewalls, SIEM, CASB, CSPM).
  • Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital assets.
  • Develop and enforce security standards, policies, and patterns.
  • Integrate security into infrastructure and development processes.
  • Monitor and optimise security systems performance.


Technical Support & Collaboration    

  • Provide expert guidance on security matters across teams.
  • Act as a technical escalation point during incidents.
  • Conduct assessments, audits, and vendor evaluations.
  • Support training and maintain documentation.


Continuous Improvement & Compliance    

  • Stay up to date with emerging security technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Lead security awareness initiatives and training.
  • Apply DevSecOps principles to automate and enhance security processes.


Key Role Relationships

  • Internal: Service Desk, End User Computing, Program Delivery, Data Engineering & Science
  • External: Managed Security Service Providers, Cyber Security Vendors


Experience & Capabilities


ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE (what you have done)    

  • Extensive experience and specialist skills in the configuration and maintenance of security infrastructure, including the ability to support a variety of technologies.
  • Commercial experience in Security, Dev or Cloud Engineering
  • Proven track record in assessing security risks, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing and executing mitigation strategies.
  • Proven experience with public cloud (IaaS and PaaS) services, preferably with Microsoft Azure and AWS.


CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE (what you need to know)    

  • DevSecOps and automation expertise
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity threats and technologies
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 27001, ITIL, PCI DSS, NIST
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GISP, GSLC)
