We are seeking a highly qualified Windows System Administrator to provide expert systems engineering support to our Department of Defense (DoD) customer in Crystal City, VA. The successful candidate will leverage extensive technical knowledge and hands-on experience to deliver comprehensive engineering solutions in a secure, mission-critical environment. 


 The  Windows System Administrator will:

  • Deliver advanced technical expertise supporting requirements development, architecture, build, integration, deployment, and sustainment of highly complex IT systems in accordance with project objectives and DOD standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including system, network, security, platform, software, and automation engineers—as well as QA/test professionals—to implement, modernize, and optimize enterprise applications (web/mobile), core services, and infrastructure.
  • Customize, configure, and integrate Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Government-Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) hardware and software solutions to meet customer and mission requirements.
  • Enable and support delivery of professional managed services, including but not limited to: IT operations, network and systems administration, help desk support, program management, leased circuit management, and facility operations.
  • Demonstrate expertise across key technology domains: Active Directory, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), domain file services, print services, enterprise backup, endpoint protection/antivirus, server operating systems (Windows), ITSM/monitoring tools, and related specialty systems.
  • Lead system lifecycle engineering efforts—architecting, implementing, maintaining, auditing, and enhancing systems per customer, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex hardware/software/system-level issues; provide Tier III escalation and sustainment support individually and collaboratively.
  • Perform hardware and software installation and integration, ensuring seamless interoperability across new and legacy components (e.g., servers, backup appliances, monitoring agents, base OS/software).
  • Engineer and deploy enterprise IT solutions, including robust AD environments, Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019+) platforms, and COTS/GOTS applications.
  • Investigate emerging technologies and provide technical assessments, trade studies, and recommendations aligned with customer requirements, budgets, and security policies.
  • Author and present detailed technical briefings, reports, and work products for various audiences.
  • Conduct capacity planning and support technology refresh and modernization planning efforts.
  • Develop comprehensive system engineering documentation—including solution analysis, bill of materials, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for infrastructure projects and proposal development, ensuring compliance with contract deliverables, standards, and best practices.
  • Adhere to and support enterprise change management and configuration processes in a DoD environment.
  • Drive IT disaster recovery planning, documentation, implementation, and testing.
  • Lead and participate in collaborative engineering meetings, technical reviews, and integrated product teams (IPTs).
  • Support and provide expertise in the deployment and administration of system monitoring solutions (e.g., SCOM, VMware vRealize Operations, ScienceLogic, etc.).

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret clearance minimum with the ability to upgrade to Top Secret
  • 5-7 years of Windows System Administration experience
  • BA/BS or equivalent years of experience
  • Active Security+CE
  • Extensive experience with Active Directory infrastructure

Desired Experience

  • Understanding of DoD, DISA cybersecurity requirements including Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • MCSE or other Microsoft engineering-level certification
  • DevSecOps deployment model; understanding of Agile methodology. CMMI, ITIL a plus
  • Remote Access Technologies – mobile (Apple/Android), VPN, DMVPN, IPSec, VDI (Citrix/AWS Workspace/Azure)
  • Understanding of DoD, DISA cybersecurity requirements including Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • DISA Experience
  • JSP Experience
  • Microsoft Server 2016 and 2019
  • VMWare
