Position Overview:
The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services team:
The Director Infrastructure Tools & Automation will oversee the strategy and execution of automation initiatives across the organization’s digital infrastructure. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive infrastructure automation strategy, focused on speed and time to value, ensuring compliance with security standards, and enhancing the efficiency and resilience of IT environments. This includes provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and orchestration for DT environments, driving continuous improvement in automation practices to support mission-critical operations and drive towards infrastructure as code (IaC).
This position will provide direction for automation strategy, championing value & product driven operating models, and compliance initiatives. Lead teams to establish frameworks, governance processes, and reporting mechanisms to enable proactive risk management and threat mitigation. The leader will collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, DT, OT, cybersecurity, operations) and senior leadership to ensure automation investments align with organizational strategy. They will build and lead a high-performing team focused on automation assessment, remediation, and compliance. Drive continuous improvement in automation practices to maximize protection, operational excellence, and business value.
What You Will Do:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive infrastructure automation strategy, encompassing provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and orchestration for DT/OT environments
- Oversee the deployment and lifecycle management of automation tools and platforms (e.g. CI/CD pipelines, automated patching, monitoring), and work with end users in the CTO function and DT teams to prioritize infrastructure automation use cases
- Establish and enforce standards for security, compliance, and interoperability in automated infrastructure processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, DT, OT, cybersecurity, operations) to drive adoption and optimization of automation technologies
- Lead regular reviews, testing, and validation of automated processes to ensure reliability, security, and alignment with business needs
- Report on automations deployed to date, track KPIs and metrics relevant to automation ( example: count and complexity of automations, time saved, and financial benefit to RTX.)
- Monitor emerging automation trends and threats, recommending and implementing innovative solutions to enhance infrastructure resilience and efficiency
- Identity areas of opportunities to automate across Infrastructure, build pipeline of initiatives, build business case, and track & report metrics
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 14 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in IT Automation focused on infrastructure, infrastructure as code, with a track record of managing large-scale, complex environments
- 5 years hands-on experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Python scripting, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins)
- 5 years deep knowledge of infrastructure domains: compute, network, storage, virtualization, cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), and containers (Kubernetes)
- 3+ years experience in IT service management (ITSM), infrastructure as code (IaC), Configuration management, and monitoring/observability
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Strong track record of engaging stakeholders across IT and business units to prioritize automation use cases
- Proven experience leading cross-functional automation or platform engineering teams in a global enterprise environment
- Ability to develop automation strategies aligned with cost optimization, reliability, and security Compliance
- Experience defining KPIs to track automation ROI, operational gains, and time-to-value
- Experience in process redesign, workflow orchestration, and integration with ITIL/DevOps frameworks
- Capable of building business cases, securing funding, and measuring value delivery through metrics and dashboards
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale high-performing automation teams
- Invested in upskilling, mentoring, and cultivating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

The salary range for this role is 176,000 USD - 352,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
