The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Network Security Engineer to ensure the security of our foundational infrastructure, from our cloud environments to our devices and endpoints. This role will work on the Product security team and help the team to enforce robust security controls across our entire network.

At Flock, our network environment presents unique challenges, from engineering the complex, real-time connectivity for our first-responder drone fleet to implementing robust security segmentation across our cloud infrastructure. The engineer in this role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing firewalls, vpn, connectivity infrastructure, and secure network segmentation in our cloud properties. This role includes both direct client connectivity networking as well cloud related network security. This role presents the opportunity to manage network primitives as code as well as work with our device engineering teams on tricky network level challenges.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in the management of our Cloud network primitives with code forward approaches (Terraform, and scripting languages Go, Python)

• Manage Flock's firewall infrastructure in conjunction with Product Security team peers

• Help architect and build Flock's client and customer VPN infrastructure in partnership with Flock's SRE team

• Design and implement network security boundary protections for Flock's cloud environments (primarily AWS)

• Partner with team members to manage and maintain Flock's web application firewall infrastructure

• Partner with Flock hardware engineering teams to design and deploy secure networking solutions for Flock edge devices

• Automate repetitive tasks in network management to as code solutions

• Build and maintain partnerships with engineering teams to embed security in the development lifecycle

• Respond to security incidents as an SME when needed and perform root cause analysis

The Skillset

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to read, understand, and write Terraform and Cloudformation

• Ability to read, understand, and write Python, or Golang

• Ability to present complex technical topics to non-technical audiences

• Experience managing modern firewalls on cloud properties

• Experience writing standard operating procedures, system requirements and other technical documentation

• Working deep knowledge of cloud network stacks (AWS)

• Ability to conduct code and security architecture reviews

• 5+ years of experience of security or infrastructure engineering experience

• 5+ years of experience working AWS

• Working knowledge of network security

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Github, Terraform, and Jenkins

• Experience managing web application firewalls

90 Days at Flock

The First 30 Days

• In the first 30 days, you'll onboard, meet key stakeholders, understand our pipeline and environment, gather feedback, and implement a quick win to build momentum on your journey.

The First 60 Days

• By the end of 60 days, you will have a mastery grasp of our current Cloud network security state and you'll begin actively managing Flock firewalls. During this period you'll also work to fully understand our boundaries and client VPN setup.

90 Days & Beyond

• By the end of 90 days, you'll lead network security projects, implement security features, be working to implement network projects you identify in the first 60, publish future state architecture documents, and contribute to security planning and documentation.

The Interview Process

3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day.

4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.

5. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $130,000-170,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
