This position requires you to maintain Internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.

Purpose

The Cybersecurity Operations Engineer will collaborate with a team of engineers to design, build, and administer large scale risk and vulnerability management infrastructures operated by the UT Austin Information Security Office (UTISO). This person will work closely with the UTISO to ensure the infrastructure is effectively supporting our customer base which spans the state of Texas and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a small team of engineers to design, build, automate, and administer systems infrastructure in on-premise or cloud environment.
  • Use automation tools (e.g., Ansible) to configure and secure systems.
  • Tune systems for scale and performance.
  • Develop and debug python scripts.
  • Periodically review and advise on architectural security reviews.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive documentation, artifacts, procedures, and processes for the optimal management of key infrastructure.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience building & integrating systems in environments utilizing enterprise source code management tools & automation tooling using Python and/or Bash scripting, Ansible, etc).
  • At least 4 years of experience with Linux system administration or an advanced understanding of operating systems and common operating environments.
  • Excellent written and oral skills, ability to work closely with multiple groups, manage expectations and track engagement scope.
  • General networking and security troubleshooting (firewalls, routing, NAT, etc.).
  • Demonstrated affinity for or interest in information security.

Preferred Qualifications

  • System design / architecture knowledge:
    o Experience of DNS, DHCP, load balancers, reverse proxies
    o Knowledge of monitoring and observability systems (Prometheus, Grafana, Checkmk. Zabix, and/or Splunk experience)
    o Clustered / highly available systems
    o Securing systems at scale
  • Linux network configuration:
    o Cloud and on-prem networking
    o Mesh VPN, vxlans
    o Software defined networking
  • Orchestration and scheduler knowledge:
    o Kubernetes or nomad

Salary Range

$115,000 + depending on qualifications
