What is the opportunity?
As a Privacy Manager in the RBC Brewin Dolphin Privacy Team you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact by working with all parts of the business on all aspects of privacy compliance. This is a highly visible and important role.
The successful candidate will be predominantly focused on the UK and Ireland, although as our journey towards full integration with our global parent (RBC) continues, there will be opportunities to work with Privacy colleagues across the UK, Europe, and APAC region, and with colleagues in Canada and the US, as appropriate, and to support the wider business through integration.
What will you do?
- As a privacy subject matter expert, supporting the DPOs and Head of Data Protection UK, Europe and APAC, to provide advice and support, predominantly for the UK and Ireland, and across other entities and jurisdictions as required.
- Assess projects, initiatives and/or products and services for privacy compliance, carry out Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) and other privacy risk assessments, advise on privacy by design requirements, and identify and mitigate privacy risks.
- Support the maintenance and enhancement of the Global Privacy Program within the region, helping ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws, regulations, and internal policy requirements, and fostering a corporate culture that respects privacy and builds trust with RBC’s clients and employees.
- Support the region’s DPOs with all aspects of their regulatory tasks, representing and deputising for them as required.
- Work closely with business areas to identify, document and track their privacy risks and recommend actions to address them, reporting on the risk position as required, through formal organisational risk management processes.
- Support the firm to develop and maintain its Record of Processing Activities.
- Co-ordinate responses to data subject rights requests, privacy queries and complaints from clients and employees.
- Support and advise on the management of data incidents and breaches, in line with privacy legislation, and local and global policies and procedures.
- Work with internal stakeholders to ensure governance relating to 3rd parties (including suppliers) meets the applicable privacy standards.
- Advise on how to ensure marketing and communication practices are compliant with the applicable privacy laws and RBC policy.
- Monitor changes to the privacy laws, regulations and best practice within the region, assisting with impact and gap assessments to effect timely changes to policies, supporting the business to update their processes and controls.
- Support the development and facilitation of privacy training and awareness programs across the region to improve employee awareness.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Demonstrate a strong privacy background, solid privacy experience, and an ethical approach to data use.
- Demonstrate good technical knowledge of data protection laws, regulations and practices in the UK and/or Ireland, and experience of applying these in practice, including communicating with privacy regulators and clients.
- Excellent administration, documentation, planning and organisation skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and advocacy skills; able to express complex issues to non-expert audiences, within internal or client-facing settings; communicates professionally and tactfully with stakeholders at all levels, building positive relationships.
- Experience delivering cross-company and/or jurisdiction privacy programs/initiatives preferred.
Nice-to-have
- Prior relevant experience in Financial Services in a large multi-national company is desirable but not essential.
- Experience of formal risk management preferred.
- Higher level qualifications such as A Levels or a Degree (or equivalent) are desirable.
- Privacy qualification (such as CIPP/E or Practitioner Certificate) highly desirable.
