Job Description

About the Role:

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Guardant Health, you will manage key components of our enterprise solutions, focusing on planning, design, installation, validation, monitoring, and ongoing administration of our global technology infrastructure. Your responsibilities include ensuring high system availability, security, and compliance, as well as participating in business assessments and mentoring a global team of engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage network and data center operations, monitoring, and management for both on-premise and co-location environments to ensure continuous, reliable, and secure network performance.
  • Provision, install, and configure a variety of network infrastructure components, including Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper Mist, and AWS Cloud, to ensure robust and secure network operations.
  • Design and implement network architecture and infrastructure to support current and future business requirements.
  • Conduct regular network performance assessments and implement improvements to optimize speed, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Manage and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and VPNs to safeguard the organization’s data.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal performance and reliability of network services and equipment.
  • Perform network capacity planning and scalability assessments to accommodate growth and new technologies.
  • Develop and enforce network policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to IT staff and end-users regarding network-related issues and configurations.
  • Implement and manage network monitoring tools to proactively detect and address potential network issues.
  • Conduct network troubleshooting and diagnostics to quickly resolve connectivity and performance issues.
  • Lead network-related projects from planning through execution, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
  • Stay current with emerging network technologies and trends, recommending and implementing new solutions as appropriate.
  • Coordinate network changes, installations, and upgrades with minimal disruption to business operations, ensuring proper change management procedures are followed.
  • Debug and resolve operating system and network issues, including network and security-related problems, to maintain system integrity and performance.
  • Manage and maintain data center environmental systems, including cooling, power distribution, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and power distribution units (PDU) to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of UPS and PDU systems to ensure continuous power availability.
  • Monitor and manage power distribution and load balancing within the data center to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on UPS and PDU systems to identify and address potential issues before they impact operations.
  • Ensure successful coordination and collaboration between IT functions and line-of-business operations to maintain the availability, reliability, and scalability of enterprise solutions.
  • Develop and automate actions associated with policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including updating and maintaining accurate documentation to enhance efficiency and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in network and data center operations, including hands-on experience with network infrastructure and environmental systems.
  • Extensive experience with network infrastructure components, including Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper Mist, and AWS Cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of network architecture and design principles, including WAN, LAN, VPN, IPSEC, WiFi, and CNAPP technology.
  • Proven experience in network security, including the configuration and management of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and VPNs.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform network performance assessments and implement optimization strategies.
  • Experience in managing data center environmental systems, including cooling, power distribution, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and power distribution units (PDU).
  • Proficiency in network monitoring and management tools, with the ability to proactively detect and resolve network issues.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for resolving operating system and network issues, including network and security-related problems.
  • Excellent project management skills, with experience leading network-related projects from planning through execution.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for network and data center operations, including compliance requirements.
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance and support to IT staff and end-users.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, service providers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to stay current with emerging network technologies and trends, recommending and implementing new solutions as appropriate.
  • Experience with developing and automating actions associated with policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including updating and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Physical ability to handle data center equipment and work in an environment with exposure to moderate noise levels and varying temperatures.

Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.

For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $112,000 to $151,200. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
