The TeamGrid's Seattle-based money team manages Grid's core backend services. The team is responsible for building and operating high availability systems that move money quickly and safely. Platform engineering is vital to Grid's ongoing scalability and success.
The RoleWith a focus on platform engineering and infrastructure, you'll lead our system stability and scalability! This work will include a number of exciting challenges, including database optimization, DevOps improvements, cloud infrastructure management. InfoSec program management and product development.
As a founding team member of our platform engineering function, you'll have an opportunity to design, own and operate Platform Engineering at Grid as we grow orders of magnitude.

What you’ll do:

  • Evaluate backend and architectural bottlenecks
  • Analyze system observability and service level objectives
  • Improve scalability to enable order of magnitude growth
  • Lead architectural initiatives related to databases and microservice decomposition
  • Identify and solve real-world performance issues at scale
  • Prioritize Grid's Platform Engineering roadmap in order to unlock exponential growth
  • Build internal products to increase the productivity of the engineering team as a whole
  • Employ Platform Engineering and DevOps practices that enable Grid to increase deployment velocity and quality
  • Manage TechOps cost for Cloud Infrastructure and other vendors
  • Assist with compliance programs and partnerships as needed by business operations
  • Lead developer experience enhancement initiatives
  • Architect and implement software reliability programs
  • Improve observability and reduce MTTD/MTTR through proactive monitoring and engineering self-healing systems

You're a great candidate if you:

  • Have 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Have 3+ years of experience in consumer software technology
  • Have experience in high growth tech startup environments
  • Are data-driven, fluent in SQL, datadog and basic analytics
  • Are mission-driven and excited to have a direct impact on millions of Americans' lives
  • Have experience with production environment change management, devops and cloud infrastructure - we use GCP
  • Have experience building workflows and maintaining CI/CD platforms such as Github Actions, Azure or Jenkins
  • Have experience with backend software engineering - we use Go
  • Have experience with BI/analytics tools - BigQuery, SQL
  • Have experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Statsd, Prometheus, Grafana, Influx, Telegraf, Vector, etc
