We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated AWS Gov Cloud (CloudOne) Engineer to join our Cloud Operations team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS cloud technologies and specific experience managing and maintaining environments within AWS GovCloud (US). This role will involve the design, implementation, and management of cloud infrastructure to support mission-critical applications and services for our government clients.
We are the complete Communications Lifecycle Management tool for the United States Air Force/DoD globally. You will be developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), maintaining Continuous Integration/Continous Deployment pipelines, automating security patching, containerization of components, transitioning legacy components into AWS Cloud-Native solutions., and editing components in the AWS/Gov Cloud environment. We are a small AGILE team with an experienced project manager, short sprint cycles, on-site product owners, and a great working team environment. This will be challenging and rewarding work!
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Infrastructure Design & Implementation:
- Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and compliant cloud infrastructure solutions on AWS GovCloud (US) in alignment with government regulations and organizational needs.
- Collaborate with architecture and development teams to design cloud-native applications and services.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible.
Operations & Management:
- Monitor and maintain AWS GovCloud (US) environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
- Automate cloud operations and deployment pipelines using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Implement and manage robust backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans within the AWS GovCloud environment.
- Perform routine system maintenance tasks, including patching, updates, and upgrades.
Security & Compliance:
- Ensure all cloud infrastructure meets government security standards, including FISMA, FedRAMP, and DoD SRG compliance.
- Implement and maintain identity and access management (IAM) policies, role-based access controls (RBAC), and multi-factor authentication (MFA) across all cloud services.
- Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing to identify and remediate potential risks.
- Manage encryption, key management services (KMS), and secure communication protocols to protect sensitive data.
Support & Troubleshooting:
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for cloud-related incidents, including troubleshooting and resolving issues within AWS GovCloud (US).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex cloud infrastructure problems and improve system reliability.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud architecture, processes, and procedures.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of cloud projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior cloud engineers and other team members.
- Participate in meetings with clients, partners, and vendors to discuss technical requirements and provide cloud-related expertise.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in AWS cloud engineering, focusing on AWS GovCloud (US).
- Strong experience with cloud infrastructure design, deployment, and management.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience with DevOps tools and methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Demonstrated experience with security and compliance in cloud environments, particularly in government or highly regulated sectors.
Certifications:
- Security+ or equivalent certification (required to obtain).
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional (required).
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (preferred).
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture, microservices, and serverless computing.
- In-depth knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Familiarity with government compliance frameworks (FISMA, FedRAMP, DoD SRG).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with or within the Department of Defense (DoD) or other federal agencies.
- Knowledge of networking principles, including VPNs, DNS, firewalls, and load balancers.
Work Environment:
- This position may require occasional on-site work at secure government facilities.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a government SECRET security clearance.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent will be exposed to normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on a computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email, and face to face. This position requires the incumbent to have the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
