This role is supporting a Federal client with a broad cybersecurity portfolio that requires someone with a firm grasp of cybersecurity principles and operations and who can communicate complex technical ideas across all stakeholders. You should be passionate about user experience, understanding and explaining technical subjects, and writing for IT professionals and senior executives. Coursework or experience in cybersecurity, Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC), Linux and Windows system administration, IP networking, virtualization, and cloud computing tools (Microsoft Azure, AWS, etc.) will give you an advantage.
As a Technical Writer, you would be supporting senior cybersecurity executives and a senior steering committee for a Federal agency. Typical duties include attending meetings and interpreting technical discussions into a report or summary. Assist in the preparation of Governance, Risk and Compliance documentation to include crafting authorization letters, presenting independent verification and validation data and assisting in incorporating new policies and procedures as they relate to technical directives. They will also work closely with other internal client stakeholders to create or modify technical documentation, technical manuals and training materials for technologies like Splunk, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint or other enterprise tools. 

What You've Accomplished and Work You'll Do

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM program
  • At least five years’ experience researching, writing, editing, and reviewing product documentation and/or content in support of a technical product
  • Experience writing cybersecurity and product development
  • Experience taking highly technical material and creating presentations for different audiences ranging from executives, subject matter experts and the initiated
  • Proven ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts and create accurate procedural and reference information
  • Solid planning and scheduling skills and experience working within tight deadlines
  • Experience working as part of globally distributed teams
  • Must be flexible and enjoy working with new technology in a dynamic environment where requirements change rapidly
  • Understanding of IT operations to include Security Operations Centers (SOC), Vulnerability Management, GRC, or Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Firm grasp of IP networking and virtualization technologies and infrastructure
  • Proficiency with DITA or other XML-based documentation formats
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Preferred Skills
  • Experience developing documentation for SaaS-based products
  • Experience with Jira or similar project tracking and management tool
  • Understanding of the principles of minimalism, single sourcing and structured writing
  • Knowledge of a programming language
  • Experience creating how-to videos
  • Experience conducting usability studies
  • Experience writing training focused documentation
