The Technology and Innovation (T&I) Ministry supports GoA departments with information management and technology (IMT) leadership and expertise in IMT services delivery, security, and corporate investment management that enable the GoA to meet business goals and objectives.

The Data and Content Management Division is responsible for advancing strategies, policies and programs related to the delivery of data, content management, and artificial intelligence technology. The division uses a one government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making and service delivery across the GoA balanced with individual client needs. This facilitates enhanced data access, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Enterprise Data Architect to play a pivotal role in designing and shaping our cutting-edge federated data ecosystem. If you have a keen eye for detail, a flair for creative solutions, and a relentless drive for excellence, we want you to be a part of our dynamic team!

As an Enterprise Data Architect, you will be at the helm of designing and implementing a robust data fabric that seamlessly integrates disparate data sources, ensuring accessibility, reliability, privacy protections and security. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect scalable and efficient solutions, empowering our organization with actionable insights. You will contribute to the evolution of the GoA Data Strategy, data management and related frameworks. You will have in-depth knowledge of solution architecture modeling, process modeling, data modeling and cloud design technologies, as well as knowledge of best-practice data platform design techniques. This role is an exciting opportunity to leave a lasting impact and influence strategic decisions.

The efforts of this role will improve access to and informed use of GoA data assets both within and outside of government in support of policy analysis, program planning, and decision-making. This role will require the ability to think and work tactically across the enterprise, as well as diving deeper into data topics related to architecture, platforms, access, and governance to support the GoA Data Strategy. The role supports Data Centre of Excellence team’s Data Services stream by working collaboratively with Data Partnerships, Data Governance, Data Literacy teams and with other enterprise data architects, data product developers, data architects, data analytics developers and data scientists on variety of data initiatives to ensure optimal data delivery architecture.

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead the design and development of a federated data platform architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals and scalability. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into innovative and efficient solutions.
  • Champion the implementation of cutting-edge technologies to enhance data processing, storage, and analytics capabilities.
  • Designing and delivering on enterprise data architecture related to data products and platforms.
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging trends in data strategy.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A related university degree (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • The following experience  will be considered related: 
    • Developing, delivering and implementing data platform solution architectures
    • Cloud computing or big data platforms and infrastructure.
    • Data Cataloguing, Data Quality, Master Data Management, and Data Governance.
    • Manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Solid experience presenting to various levels of the organization.


Assets:

  • Certification as an architecture professional in one or more domains (e.g. DAMA CDMP, CISSP, Business Architecture Guild CBA, MS Azure).
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Gartner or Zachman), their use and implementation.
  • Knowledge of data fabric, semantic layers and data lake with tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Snowflake, Cloudera, Hadoop, Spark etc.
  • Proficiency in designing solutions for cloud-based data platforms, such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.


Equivalencies are:
A related two-year post-secondary diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; or a related one-year post-secondary certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).

While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
