Position Summary

The Physical Security Technology Architect holds primary responsibility and accountability for technology planning and architecture within Corporate Security.

 

This role works in partnership with stakeholders to establish strategic direction and relevant reference architectures, technology standards and design patterns. Acts as a thought leader and information source to support team members and projects with an emphasis on technology selection to ensure products and solution meet Corporate Security needs and drive digital transformation strategies in this area.

 

This includes ensuring all relevant standards and procedures are followed resulting in safe and effective implementation of security technologies to protect our people, facilities and critical infrastructure.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory and will be agreed upon by the successful candidate and hiring leader.

 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

 

Bay Area Minimum:   $118,000   

Bay Area Maximum:  $188,000

California Minimum: $112,000

California Maximum: $179,000

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end architectural design of complex systems by actively partnering with cross-functional Architects and Engineers ensuring solutions meet the requirements of scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Develop high-level architectural documentation, including diagrams, blueprints, and technical specifications which communicates complex technical ideas to a technical and non-technical audience to support the implementation of enterprise solutions.
  • Provides technology direction and vision for the Corporate Security Department while coaching and mentoring non-architect technical team members.
  • Review and approve non-standard work to ensure it is compliant with architectural standards while tracking any exceptions.
  • Establish technology strategies and roadmaps that enables a multiyear technology portfolio in support of current and future business and technology capabilities.
  • Active participation in the planning of the Corporate Security Value Stream and portfolio budget to ensure prioritization and alignment with short-term and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Works with OEM product vendors, distributors, and consultants to develop and maintain an extensive product knowledge and stay up to date on the latest security products, industry trends and emerging technologies related to large-scale system architecture.
  • Evaluate and recommend advanced security technologies to protect and monitor facilities effectively.
  • Provide consultation and direction to delivery and operational teams on optimal architecture for respective solutions.
  • Evaluate the existing architecture and identify components that need to be re-engineered or optimized.
  • Assist in the establishment of solutions architecture program, and the adoption of an architecture and standards methodology.

 

Experience

  • Experience in working on large-scale projects with a focus on quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) containerization technologies, and on-premises server/hardware deployments is a plus.
  • Understanding of the principles, processes, and technologies involved in designing, developing, and deploying enterprise-level technology systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, routing, switching, and security principles.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, risk management, and the ability to protect critical infrastructure and data.
  • Understand full domain technology stack, architecture and consumption/usage to provide expert level consulting for Corporate Security.
  • Knowledge of Lean/Agile principles, values, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to proactively innovate and adopt new technologies and solutions while working with various subject matter experts and leaders.
  • Experience in public speaking, presenting at conferences, or contributing to thought leadership.
  • Experience in managing relationships with technology vendors and evaluating third-party physical security solutions.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience related to the Technology Architect role.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to address complex technical challenges and proactively identify technology solutions through collaboration with peer architects, subject matter experts and/or vendors.
  • Architecture acumen across multiple domains including network, infrastructure, software, hosting models, and security.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, thorough, detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive contributor with strong technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external technical organizations while also being able to communicate advanced technical concepts in a commonsense manner to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work within a team environment or work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong work ethic and exceptional levels of accountability with a history of professional growth and increased responsibility.
  • Must be able to complete a NERC/CIP Personal Risk Acceptance (PRA)
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to balance technical and administrative duties simultaneously.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., TOGAF, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCDE, CISSP) will be a strong advantage.
  • Experience working with ESRI, Bluebeam or CAD platforms.
  • Experience with Genetec and/or AMAG.
  • Experience working in the utility industry
