About IT Security 

The IT Security department is led by the CISO, and consists of 4 teams: Application Security, Business Continuity, Governance/Risk/Compliance and the Security Operations team which this position would be a member of. The department collaborates on security projects based on risk to the organization.  

 

About the Position 

Reporting directly to VP - Security Operations, based in the London office, the Cyber Security Analyst will be part of Security Operations team. Their primary responsibilities will include assisting with ongoing management of security tools, collaborating with the Managed Security Service Provider, and participating in red and purple team exercises. 

This role is expected to be 50% technical, 50% Operational. 

The Cyber Security Analyst role is based in the Stamford, CT office and will be offered the opportunity for select travel to other RenRe offices (Dublin, London, Bermuda). 

Currently, a hybrid office approach applies. 

Key Relationships 

  • Reports to: Eric Knopp, VP Security Operations 

  • Key Stakeholders: All employees and contractors at RenRe. 

  • Key Partners: Infrastructure Team, Service Desk Team  

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support RenaissanceRe’s cyber security strategy and security initiatives as directed by CISO, including the reporting and improvement of key security metrics throughout the organization. 

  • Work within Security Operations team to manage the day-to-day operation of the company’s security product suites: antimalware, vulnerability scanners, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), and others with a focus on practically improving the security posture of the organization.  

  • Conduct policy tuning for the existing security tools and reviews of new security products. 

  • Assist with automation of security tasks via SOAR platform. 

  • Collaborate with Managed Security Service Provider (who action first line support tickets and manage SIEM security engineering) on responses to support tickets, SIEM log source management and any additional requests as they appear. 

  • Work with Security team on phishing responses and investigations including investigations on potentially malicious files utilizing sandboxing tools. 

  • Work with other members of Security team on initiatives, projects, investigations, and other tasks as they occur.  

  • Collaborate closely with Infrastructure team on security initiatives, including vulnerability management, pen test remediation and improving security posture. Be prepared to take ownership and deliver these projects to completion. 

  • Be prepared to serve as technical SME (Subject Matter Expert), scribe, or incident response deputy during incidents and incident response training. 

  • Participating in on-call rota with rest of Security Operations team. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Candidate Qualifications: 

Professional/Technical competences - Required: 

  • Endpoint Detection and Response, vulnerability scanners, SIEM, and Next Gen Firewalls. 

  • Responding to cyber incidents and management of incident lifecycle. Conducting technical forensic investigations as needed. 

  • Experience with technical projects across multiple stakeholders and teams. 

Professional/Technical competences - Desirable: 

  • Experience working with cloud security (AWS , Azure). 

  • Linux and Mac security experience. 

  • Ethical Hacking - Red, Blue, or Purple team exercise experience.  

  • Experience with scripting tools, e.g., Python or PowerShell, and visualization tools, such as Power BI (Business Intelligence), Pandas or similar. 

  • Previous experience with infrastructure support in the Active Directory/Windows environment. 

 

Educational Requirements: 

  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field or cybersecurity preferred. 

Work Experience Requirements: 

  • At least 3 years in a Security Analyst/Engineer role 

  • Previous Financial Services experience valuable
