Job Description

Come join the exciting world of emergency management!  Do you have a desire and a passion to serve the citizens of Oklahoma?  Come join our team and help your fellow Oklahomans.  The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) prepares for, responds to, recovers from, and mitigates against disasters and emergencies.  Our agency operates the State Emergency Operations Center which serves as a command center for reporting emergencies and coordinating state response activities.

The 9-1-1 Agency is seeking a full time 9-1-1 Cybersecurity Specialist providing support to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management Team.   The annual salary for this position is up to $62,500.00 based on education and experience.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Technology Coordinator, the 9-1-1 Cybersecurity Specialist is responsible for ensuring the security and integrity of Next Generation 911 (NG911) systems. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining cybersecurity measures to protect emergency communication systems from cyber threats. The specialist will work collaboratively with stakeholders, conduct risk assessments, serve as a subject expert on security incidents and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Typical Functions

  • Conducts cybersecurity assessments and provide detailed reports.

  • Ensures PSAPs have access to available grant programs designed to replace equipment and/or software.

  • Develops and implement comprehensive cybersecurity strategies to PSAPs prior to connecting to the

  • NG911 Core Services.

  • Provides statewide trainings on cybersecurity.

  • Attends and participate in committee meetings relating to cybersecurity.

  • Assists in the development of the Oklahoma NG9-1-1 Strategic Plan as it relates to cybersecurity.

  • Provides verbal and written status reports as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of 4 years of experience in Cybersecurity,

Information Technology, Computer Science, OR a combination practical experience in Cybersecurity,

Information Technology, Computer Science, and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Preferences

• National Emergency Number Association’s Emergency Number Professional Certification

• Cybersecurity certification by a national recognized organization

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of analog and digital telecommunications.

  • Knowledge of computer systems; of various types of equipment used in information systems.

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking including the hardware and software utilized for VoIP

communications.

  • Knowledge of 9-1-1 technologies need to deliver a call from the caller to the 911 center.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to mild noise level. This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and telephone. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Special Requirements

Must be able and willing to perform all job-related travel in-state and out-of-state when necessary, including overnight travel. Percentage of travel time: 25%.
