Wood is recruiting for Junior Cyber Security & Network Engineers to join our Cyber and Networking team across our Digital Consulting business based in our UK office(s).

As a Wood Junior Cyber Security & Network Engineer, you will join a culture of innovation, pushing the boundaries of what is possible to seek the best solutions for our clients.

As a Junior Cyber Security & Network Engineer, you will receive on the job training and learn how to assist in the provision of cyber security, networking, secure architectures, solutions, vulnerability and risk assessments, technologies and procedures to support Wood assignments / project teams and clients.

Join our team as a Junior Cyber Security & Network Engineer and work on exciting projects under the guidance of experienced supervisors and mentors. As a Junior Cyber Security & Network Engineer, you will:

  • Secure Industrial Control Systems (ICS): Ensure compliance with industry standards such as IEC 62443, NIST, and ISO 27001.
  • Conduct Cybersecurity Assessments: Evaluate the robustness of cybersecurity architectures and perform risk and vulnerability assessments on client systems and network devices.
  • Design and Implement Secure Networks: Assist in creating secure networks and solutions that meet client requirements, including implementing measures to mitigate security risks.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with teams such as functional safety and control system teams to integrate security measures into various systems.
  • Support Technical Engineering: Contribute to the technical aspects of automation project design and implementation.
  • Prepare Documentation and Perform Maintenance: Prepare engineering studies and network & cyber design documentation and perform maintenance and troubleshooting under supervision.
  • Assist in Project Management: Use tools to help manage and report on project costs, schedules, and risks.

At the end of your initial training period, you may choose to specialise in a specific area such as Securing Industrial Control Systems (ICS), ensuring compliance with industry standards, conducting risk assessments and management, or focusing on cost planning and estimating. Alternatively, you might prefer to become a generalist, gaining a broad range of skills across various domains. There are multiple career paths available to suit your interests and strengths.

Who we are looking for 

We are seeking high-achieving candidates with diplomas or foundation degrees in Cyber Security, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology who have a strong desire to learn and kickstart their career.  

The ideal candidate should have an understanding or interest in cyber security, networking, Operational Technology, and Cyber Physical Systems. They should be familiar with cyber security methodologies and processes, including designing secure networks, network segmentation, integration, security policies, and cyber security management and planning. A solid understanding of cyber security standards and familiarity with the different domains and areas within cyber security is crucial.

Candidates should enjoy working collaboratively in a team environment, problem-solving, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  They should be excited by cyber security and eager to learn. Most importantly, they should be willing to take on assignments where the approach or solution isn’t known at the outset.

Expected:

  • Possess a Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline, or an equivalent qualification gained through vocational training and/or industry experience. For instance, you might hold an HND in Cyber Security, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
  • A keen interest in cybersecurity and network engineering.
  • Basic understanding of industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective organisation and planning skills.
  • Good communication skills both written and oral.
  • Uses initiative and a proactive approach.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Previous experience either voluntary or work placement within a cyber security or engineering environment is desirable.
