Based in Sydney - Macquarie Park, the Mobile IP Design/Security team is responsible for the domain architecture, design, testing, and implementation of IP products and solutions for the Optus IP network, supporting consumer and mobile customers.

The successful candidate will lead strategic and overseeing the technical component of security and firewall architecture and design within the IPNE network. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining security architecture for IP and mobile networks, advising on security-related initiatives, designing, testing, implementing solutions, and ensuring documentation is up-to-date. The role requires close engagement with vendors and SMEs to drive and produce architecture/solution designs and enforce best design practices. include

A strong understanding of information security risk management and standard frameworks is essential. Hands-on experience with Checkpoint and Fortinet Firewalls is crucial, and familiarity with mobile network technologies is highly desirable. Occasional late-night or after-hours work will be necessary. Projects must comply with InfoSec policies and standards.

This role involves interfacing with multiple groups within Optus and managing contractors and vendors to ensure project success.

As a senior engineering position within the Security arm of the Mobile IP Design team, the role demands the ability to work independently on small to medium-sized projects with limited supervision, seeking guidance from management only when necessary.

Your day in the life of a Principle Technical Specialist at Optus

  • Operate with limited supervision, provide leadership to junior engineers, and act as a subject matter expert.
  • Interface with multiple groups within Optus and manage contractors and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain the security architecture for the organization’s IP network and mobile solutions.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and provide mitigation strategies.
  • Perform impact analysis for new solutions and review security and firewall designs completed by others.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance security posture and firewall effectiveness, ensuring the security infrastructure remains resilient and up-to-date.
  • Manage the full development life cycle, solve problems, innovate, and evaluate technical alternatives.
  • Create preliminary and detailed design documents, identify solution design requirements, review and complete product testing, support system implementation, manage knowledge and documentation, and comply with information security policies and procedures.
  • Occasionally work late nights to implement and troubleshoot projects in the production network.
  • Stay updated on the latest security trends and technologies.

Your skills to pay the bills

  • Extensive experience in security design and implementation in telecommunication environment.
  • Solid understanding of complex issues, systems, technology, platforms, infrastructure, and/or software.
  • Security certifications such CISSP or equivalent
  • Fluency in Fortinet and Checkpoint knowledge and experienced is mandatory
  • Excellent understanding of Automation / Cloud Security
  • Competent level IP routing including the following protocols; BGP, OSPF, RIP
  • Good understanding of Optus networks, procedures, and day to day activities.
  • Sound understanding of InfoSec policy and industry standards in managing Information Security risk
  • Network Automation using Ansible, NSO, Python
  • Excellent knowledge of routing / switching technologies, hands-on experience with Cisco. ACI, Juniper routers, and the ability to document and deploy network configurations.
  • Ability to communicate complex technology solutions to other technical and non-technical staff.
