Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. has an immediate need for an experienced IT Professional to serve as an Information System Security Engineer for the Integrated Missions System Sector in Raleigh, NC, supporting multiple programs. The ISSE will coordinate with the Information System Security Manager, Information System Security Officer and ISSE Team lead for these Information Systems to ensure the Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements are implemented, functional, and kept up to date according to System Security Plans, system baselines, the JSIG, DAAPM, NISPOM, and applicable NIST Publications.

In this position, the ISSE will build, configure and maintain systems that adhere to government regulations. Responsibilities also include executing vulnerability scanning, coordinating with ISSO/ISSM to remediate identified vulnerabilities, maintaining file servers, network access, and documenting and analyzing system anomalies to ensure optimum equipment performance. Day-to-day tasking also includes preparing systems for operational use, authorization and supporting operational testing, supporting secure maintenance and continuous monitoring as well as providing technical support to end users.

Information System Security Engineer Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship is required and a Secret clearance with eligibility for a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
  • High School Diploma and equivalent professional experience (at least 11 years) will be considered for talented candidates without a degree or Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field with 5-7 years of relevant experience. 
  • Possess a DoD 8570 IAM-I level professional certification (i.e. Security +) or can obtain the certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Strong understanding of computer operating systems (Windows 10, Server 2019/2022 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux), software and computer hardware.
  • 2 years of working knowledge & experience with Cisco routers, firewalls and switches.
  • 2 years of Windows 10 and Server 2016/2019/2022 experience.
  • 2 years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience.
  • 2 years of experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.

Information System Security Engineer Preferences:

  • Master's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 2 years of experience with security assessment/hardening tools, i.e. STIGs, SCAP, Tenable Nessus, etc.
  • 4 years of Windows 10 and Server 2016/2019/2022 experience.
  • 4 years of experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Experience working on Government approved secure systems.
  • Cisco Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, etc.
  • Experience working with RSA Cybersecurity SecurID hardware tokens/authenticators.
